How long does it take to reload? :D

I learned in History (believe it or not) that when 700 British troops faced off against 70+ American Militamen only [n]7 Americans died. That's sad. This was the battle of Lexington aka "The Shot Heard 'Round the World"

1. The main firearm used by infantry on both sides was the Springfield 1861 muzzle-loading .58 cal Musket. As in reality, it is fairly accurate to a few hundred meters.

2. It takes approximately 15 seconds to reload(not bad even for an exceptionally good shooter). You hear your character going through the motions of loading his cartridge, ramming it twice, placing the percussion cap, cocking the hammer and lifting his weapon. A sniper version is available :shifty:

Here is some info: http://www.nps.gov/anti/rifles.htm

Also officers and NCO's can be equipped with Colt revolvers or the interesting 9-shot Le-mat revolver with buckshot underbarrel

Unfortunately I can't include bayonets, sabres. I would like to have one soldier per unit carry a large flag denoting which side he is on, but I have not the modeling capacity. Can anyone help with that? :flowers::wub:

AUS_Viper has a working bayonet in his upcoming Op. Stabilize mod. Drop him a line, he'll be able to help ;)

15 seconds! yikes! I have loaded and fired one of those before and you would have to darn good to reload in 15 seconds - I take about 30 ..... but I am hardly experianced and wasen't useing pree-packaged ammo.

I don't know if the 1861s are accuret to a few hundred meters ..... they still used balls ...... I woulden't put the maximum effective range much past 100 yards really.

second thing - have you figgured out how to mod reload time?!?!?! I have been told this cannot be done.

will there be Springfield repeaters? those would be good specalist weapons.

Yeah 15 seconds is exceptionally fast for a soldier to reoad. They were trained and expected to reload in 20 seconds...I decided that for gameplay reasons a 15 second reload was best.

The reason the 1861's are fairly accurate is because i'm using the rifled-versions, not the smooth bore. It uses minie ball ammunition and thus has more range.

Repeating rifles were not widely used in the war so at the moment I don't think I will be including them.

ah, gotcha - I used the smoothbore ..... the rifled ones use bullet shaped rounds as well right?

If I remember right by the end of the war a number of Union clavelry had them, don't think they were ever really issued to foot soldiers though .... that's why I thought specalist.

Dont forget there were a few single shot breech loaded rifles used towards the end I think (not too sure-damn history teacher).

I have seen a mod with a soldier carrying a flag......

I got a idea, if posible script it so that TKers would lose their weapons and get a fife or drummer kit. Instead of gun sounds it would be music.

@ Texan, I wish to discuss a truce.:flowers: I dare not fight a drunk southerner it just ain't a good idea. You can have New Mexico

Sniper scope. HAHAHAHA . Leave it up to the GR community to do this..

Snipers were totally uncommon in the civil war. VERY FEW.

Also, those muskets (springfield / enfield) are extremely accurate. They kick alot, but have some seriously good range on them.

This is correct. Snipers were organized into their own units and usually worked to harass approaching columns of infantry, supply columns, or targets of opportunity. They were highly specialized but were not an integral part of either army, especially as the war progressed they were used even less.

"Extremely" is relative. And yes, there is some serious kick to them, as you can see in game... :))

Oh and I think I know how he got the reload times to be longer

how? I have been trying to do this for some time - the normal guns in-game are reloaded way to fast - especaly pistols; but as far as I have been able to tell reload time is hard-coded into the game .... please tell me how you did it!
