owen4628 0
My system froze while installing GR on my Win 98 P3. Plenty of disc space available. Being unable to uninstall the normal way, I found the article on this site with special instructions for such a case. Problem is, I couldn't find over half the directories it was telling me to delete. It said to look for a directory "Installshield Installation Information" right on the C: drive, but it wasnt there. There was one with UNinstall information, but it didn't have the file I was needing. Also it said to delete certain "reg keys" etc, but I have no idea what they are or where to look for them. Please, any help anyone can offer would be awesome. Thanks! Dan
Specter 0
Before doing the regedits below, follow these steps in order first. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall GR. Once done, or if it doesnt work, delete all program folders and shortcuts from your HDD and desktop. Once this is done, go to Start, Run, and type in regedit. Hit enter. Go to file in the upper left corner, and choose export. Export a copy of the registry to a safe place in case something goes south on you. If it goes wrong, you will be able to reboot into Safe mode, double click the exported file, and restore your registry. Keep in mind that once you alter the registry, you need to make a new restore point when you are done. Sys restore doesnt work once the registry has been altered until you make a new restore point, or restore the exported reg file in case of screw up. Follow the steps below from within regedit. Any questions, give a shout. - SOTOPhantm ===================================================== Ghost Recon Uninstall / Reinstall Problems Question While installing Ghost Recon, the installer crashed. Now, I cannot uninstall the game or reinstall the game. What can I do? Answer If you are having a problem removing Ghost Recon so you can reinstall it, try this and see if it helps: From the Start Menu, click Run and type in "regedit" (without the quotes) then left click "OK". Following the next set of instructions requires you to left-click the "+" sign to the right of the proceeding directories to expand them: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Red Storm Entertainment (right-click on the folder Ghost Recon, left-click "delete" and accept the removal message) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Current Version -> App Paths (right-click on the folder GhostRecon.exe, left-click "delete" and accept the removal message) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Uninstall (right-click on the folder that starts.. {D89EF3B3-.. }, left-click "delete" and accept the removal message) Close the Registry Editor and reinstall Ghost Recon, then any expansion packs (if applicable). Finally, download the Ghost Recon patch 1.3 and 1.4. Install the 1.3 patch then the 1.4.
owen4628 0
SOTOPhantm, Thanks for the instructions. Worked like a charm! Only one part has me confused: You say to create a new restore point after I edit the registry. What does that mean and/or how do I do it? I'm afraid to shutdown, worried that I might really jack something up. Any help is welcome. Thanks again! dan
