budgie 1
Just loaded it up. So far the graphics are everything they said - just beautiful terrain and woods. I want this engine for GR2!!! Got it running at 1024x768 on a P4 with 2.5ghz and a GeForce FX 5200 and no lag. The story looks lame enough. My character, Bolt Logan (I kid you not, why didn't they just come out and call him Flash Gordon or Spaceman Spliff?) is a, drumroll....intergalactic bounty hunter!!! You guessed it. Flash's current assignment is to track down some 'rebels' on the planet - you're gonna love this - Zorg! I'll let you know as things develop, but it sure is the most beeeautiful countryside I've ever seen... Edited September 4, 2003 by budgie

budgie 1
Just finished. Nice long level, but highly scripted. At one point I was forced to stay put in a sniper tower for what felt like 10 minutes!! Once inside the building it played like Elite Force or Jedi Outcast; run, shoot, unlock level two's door on level three by hacking a computer and backtrack, man fixed gun turret, etc...You can also drive vehicles - I'm sure that will be a hit with all the MP rejects from tribes. In fact from the wallpapers at closing time it looks like an MP game with an Sp component added for a laugh. Laughable it was with the cheesy dialogue and that written-by-an-eight-year-old-who-just-discovered-Blake's-Seven plot But man those outdoor environments. Like to see them in a tactical shooter. IMO Chrome tries to be all things at once - a Half Life, Elite Force, Deus Ex hybrid, outdoors, with not enough of any of these elements to really make it stick. What was the point of having that lovely forest, if I had to stick with the AI buddy for fear of being booted from the mission? I just wanted to cut loose and wander. Demo was fun, but this game ain't for me. I think I'll just let Flash Logan or Bolt Gordon or whatever his name is hang out on the planet, ahem, Zorg with the hot blonde who has a fifty year old trailer park hooker's voice. Grab it yourselves at Gamespot. Over. Edited September 4, 2003 by budgie

Syncopator 0
Not bad. Corny storyline with no imagination whatsoever...but kid's will lap it up Im sure. Nice grafx engine - though no zoom on rifle is a bit bizarre (apart from the sniper job) - very lush textures - and undergrowth. Wouldn't buy it...but Im sure it will do what it says on the tin...and introduce some younger gamers to the FPS gambit.
