When down on the 2nd floor you can see the frist floor fine. you walk up to the frist floor everything is good.anyone have a clue what im doing wrong?
deleyt 0
Are you sure it's a portal-problem? Sounds more to me that you didn't UVW-map the objects. EDIT: ah, just read that the 2nd floor looked fine at first. Did you group the portal right with the room? The normal of the portal should be facing towards the room it is grouped together with. Also check the names of your rooms and the name of the portal that stands between them. Edited August 30, 2003 by |rsi|â„¢deleyt
cobaka 0
Portals should not be grouped with anything. In your portal name px_y, the normal should face (be visible from) room x.
Joel 0
well i know the portal is faceing right.and i know that the map is all UV mapped.and im useing JSTools to make the portal and i do an auto detect and it shows the right portal name every time p1_2 thats Room _1 and Room _2.If i goup it all as _1 everything shows up,But its 1 room and i need it 2 rooms.Thats why im shere that its the portal cuz as soon as i get to the spot were the portal is it all goes were there is no floor no walls.cuz were its placed in 3ds as soon as i get to that spot of the portal Its like i fallen off the map but u can walk around blind and bump into walls and objects.but as soo as i turn around to back up the stairs when u look up threw the hole u can see the Frist floor just fine.when u look down from the 1st floor to the 2nd u can see everything just fine untilll u walk into the portal.oo and i almost for got the portal is not grouped with the map. OSO 0
This can happen when you have a portal or sherman transition that is directly above or below another one. If this is the case move it. If it isn't the case move it anyways. Adjust your mesh and room groupings if you have to. These transitions don't always work the way you think they should and it is a matter of trial and error. A quick way to check is to load the map in IGOR and go down to the Edit menu then select debug>transitions. Transitions will be highlighted as a brown line. If it is missing, it might be a number of things including its position on the map. If you select edit>debug>floors they show up better in the 2d map view. This is also a good place to check your path lines if you find a troublesome spot on a map where the AI doesn't work correctly. A lot of times a simple collidable object is all that is needed to get the AI to draw a path. If it isn't your transitions and these stairs lead to a lower level floor you may need sherman level bounding boxes. In addition check your roomlist.txt file for each room to make sure they are defined on the levels that they should be.
Joel 0
ok i did just about everything yea said. I still have the same Problems .I'm useing 1 sherman for the hole map could that be the problem?.now were u said here If it isn't your transitions and these stairs lead to a lower level floor you may need sherman level bounding boxes. now for that i never made 2 sherman level before.would i make one a name it instead of 1.0 to something like 1.1.And would i group it to that level?or no?i dont know with 2 sherman levels. OSO 0
Without looking at the map, I have no idea. It sounds like you are as confused as I am.
