JTF-2 0
so i just got back from england and being away from the internet for a month, and i heard about AOL pulling something off nullsoft's site (the home of ace programmer Justin Frankel who did, among other things, WinAmp). I was intrigued so i tried to follow it up. What AOL pulled was something called Waste. it turns out that, unlike originally claimed, Waste isn't quite p2p. it's a secure, encoded, "decentralized P2P network" for up to 50 people. AOL tried to stop it from getting out, but enough people got hold if it, and if you look there are mirrors on the internet. (you can also get the source code). in it's current form it does work, but is really more of an idea that still needs some polishing. who know, in a little while we might have a polished, user friendly version of something along the same lines as Waste. in the meantime, has anybody heard anything or know anything about this? here is a really good set up guide for Waste here is an explanation of what it is Edited August 26, 2003 by JTF-
