Graphic Card Question!

Recommended Posts

I have a chanse to change my current graphic card and I'm in doubt now.

I got advice from friend of mine about Radeon 7500 128 MB but I wish to hear You guys, what do You think about that.

Any advice-riplay is more than welcome.

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you want top of the line, ATi Radeon 9800 Pro's are the way to go. If you want a budget card that gives a lot of bang for you buck, Ti4200's are very nice. Again, it depends on the amount of money you are willing to spend.

still using my Gainward GF4 Ti4200, even though I got myself a ATI 9700 AIW.

Works great with any settings... I figure why replace it when it aint broke.

I just listen to these guys here about any driver update.

They haven't failed me yet.

The GF4 Ti4200 right now are a steal...check pricewatch or newegg.

Good luck

A 7500 is old tech by anyone's opinion. I'd advise at least going for an 8500/9000Pro. If you can spend $200, get a 9500Pro. If you have somewhere in the $300 range, get either a 9700Pro or 9800Pro. Also, stick with 128mb of gfx ram, it will save you money from spending that extra on 256 which isn't even fully used, and when it is your card will be way beyond out-dated.

Just saw a benchmark somewhere that compared the 9700/9600/9500 Pro's and a GF4 Ti4200 128MB. Of course the 9700 Pro took top honors, but with some overclocking, a Radeon 9600 Pro can be just as good as a 9500 Pro, but a lot cheaper. The Ti4200 took last place between the four cards constantly. :( Not saying the Ti4200 is bad, though. In fact, Im running an ASUS Ti4200 untill my Leadtek Ti4400 is repaired, and I run the settings the same way I run the Ti4400's, and hardly notice the difference.

I herd some of the Radeon cards have some serious driver incompatabity issues with some games; I have a Ti4600 that works great, I woulden't trade it for anything (and it is faster than most Radeon cards ..... most)

Holy smoke! :o

You guys realy did amaze me. That is only thing that I like more than this

great game - this community!

THANK YOU ALL!

Yeah I'm not able to spend a lot of money partly because I'm gonna buy faster processor and more memory for comp. But I'll go until $150 so I hope

that I'll be able to buy something useful. <_<

Thank You again and have a fun!

Well, for that price range, a shiny nVidia Ti4200 ought to do the trick.

For an ATI chipset, look at an 8500/8500LE, or even a 9000 or 9200, as RooK mentioned.

Personally, I'd spend the extra and aquire a 9500PRO. It will be worth it in the longer run. Don't skimp on a video card. It can actually balance your system better than a few extra megahertz in a processor - it frees up some of the load on the CPU.

My $0.02, as usual. ;)

EDIT:

@Viper,

My 9800P will play anything I throw at it. I'm using the 3.6 Cats, and I play everything from Flight Sims to FPS to racing games like Midnight Club II. ATI has been pretty good at fixing issues with their drivers. I have both ATI and nVidia products, and for what I need them to do, they excel at.

In case it matters at all, I originally had a 7500 and the game worked fine, but at medium settings. It is much better at higher settings with a 9500 Pro (I thought they didn't make 9500pros anymore?).

Dark Ranger nailed it right on the money.

Processors are so fast now, that they rarely, in common usage, ever max out. In fact, they rarely get even close.

In fact, if you still had a P3, but you had a good Video card, and enough RAM (512 MB or more), I'd venture to say that you wouldnt notice that much of a difference in your apps than you are getting with a P4. The 2 most important upgrades for performance are video card and RAM. And of course tuning your OS.

Heres a list of cards you may want to check out. All for under a $150.

nVidia graphic chipsets.

Gainward GeForce FX 5600 Ultra - $133

Albatron GeForce4 Ti4800 - $137

MSI GeForce4 Ti 4400 - $125 (I have it, it's awesome, but it's discontinued.)

ASUS GeForce4 Ti4200 - $133

ATi chipsets.

ATi Radeon 9600 Pro - $149

IMO, ATi charges more for less, and nVidia charges less and you get more.

I have a Radeon 9200 128 meg. Cost me 179$ Canadian ( so like 50$ US :lol: j/k) . I am running the 3.6 drivers as well and have no problems running any game whatsoever. DVDs run really sweet on it as well .

Im not a fan of Gainward, but I am of their prices. If I go nVidia on my next card, Im thinking of Albatron. If I want an ATi, it will be powered and made by ATi. No Sapphire or Gigabyte and the others. I think I read somewhere on here ATi uses a beefier RAM. (Maybe by RooK...)

The market for GFX cards right now is unbelievable. I bought my Ti4400 around $190. If only I waited... well, not really. :D

Last summer my 8500 cost me $200, could have gotten it around $30-50 less online, but I wanted to buy it in person. Now, the same card can be had for around $80 and it still runs everything with the settings maxed. I even run IL2 with 4x AA.

As for graphics compatibility: It's not anymore of a problem with Ati than Nvidia. Some games mess up for no reason and in other driver releases they're fine. Also, most of the time it's another hardware conflict somewhere.

Crimson, Ati does use some good ram in their products. Lets you overclock the card more, not really an issue with someone who's running stock speeds. 3rd rate companies like Saphire use cheaper stuff on the cheaper cards and the same or better on the ones matching and exceeding Ati's price. Currently, you can get an Ati brand 9500Pro for $205 from newegg with free shipping, and imo it's the best deal around.
