It's wierd that it would work while GR is going, but not if it's not running.

Just open GR adn Alt-Tab, lmao. Kidding.

Check your PSU and CPU fans. They may be going.

no it will connect but just disconnect after about 5 mins thats only if im doing something though to.

If it's not a virus - you might be overheating and your mobo's thermo is kicking in and shutting down. Faulty fan? Poor air due to new drives put in recently? Too much power being drawn with some new cards? Could be something along those lines...

It seems odd that it only cuts once you start loading your CPU.

Does it do it if you power up and leave on OS for 30min doing nothing?

Sync has some good ideas.

When I mentioned virus, I was talking about the internet shutting down. That could be some kind of a Denial of Service Virus. Now that i think on it, years ago, I saw viruses that were made that would shut machines down.

But Im with Sync. While possible, it is probable that with the PC shutting off and on like it is, it is a faulty Power Supply(PSU), a PSU that isnt powerful enough. This would happen if you have recently added drives or a more powerful video card.

Overheating could also be a major cause of this.

Also check the very obvious. Loose Power cords at the outlet or the back of the PC. Same with the the cable for your Internet connection. This is extremely common with both of your issues.

And while it COULD be a virus, I dont think so, except on the internet connection side, MAYBE. Id check the hardware stuff thoroughly first, and once you get it running, run a very complete Anti Virus scan, just because of what's been going on this week. Everyone is getting very hammered by viruses.
