Ruin 17
I don't know how else to say it. After 15 min er so of use, my computer just locks up and I gotta reboot. What could be the cause of this? System specs are in my sig.
Ruin 17
Now it's plain ######ing annoying. The red light stays on, I can hear the fans going AWOL. The power supply going AWOl. You'd withk with a brand new PC it would last more than a couple of months. ###### is going on with this thing? GRRR! I'm so frustrated! Every day a reformat sounds more and more appealing. EDIT: uinfo4.exe.. mean anything to anyone? It's takin 99% of my CPU usage. This is my 4th attempt to post this BTW. I deleted all traces of anything with uinfo4.exe in it. Two files, and it seems my puter is leveling out.
Specter 0
Did you go into the reg and delete any traces of it also? What do you mean your fans are going nuts and your PSU also?
Dannik 43
I think (and I mean merely think) that you might have a bit of spyware called ClientMan infesting your system. Just in case, this article details how to tell, what it does, and how to remove it. Good luck, bro.
Specter 0
Good show Dannik. Some of that spyware is nasty crap, and can do very weird things to your system. It ought to be outlawed. @ Ruin, what did you mean by the fans and PSU going AWOL? Spyware wont cause that, but a bad PSU would.
Ruin 17
Did you go into the reg and delete any traces of it also? What do you mean your fans are going nuts and your PSU also? No, and the fans are changing speed, the PSU sounds like it's going off then on again. @Dannik, thanks man. I was wondering where allt hat crap came from.
Ruin 17
While I'm at it... I keep getting popus for Odysseus MArketing (the link Dannik gave me) and Messagebroadcaster.com. Things like Dakota Sunglasses and much to the surprise of the family, porno. Why does this happen?

connie lingus 0
Greetings! I agree with SB, it sounds like a trojan horse. I would try reporting it to the maker of Spybot S&D, but first run the live updates, it may already be cataloged.

When you log in or register to a website you are often clicking your permission to accept cookies and tracking programs. The same when you open emails. Reputatable merchants often use tracking programs that give info to undesirable or unwanted merchants. This is not yet illegal!

Well, it should be illegal, on top of bein an invasion of privacy, it's causing potential damage to PC's. EDIT - Perhaps this will be useful to Ruin (and myself as well) if we set up IE to only accept cookies on our prompt, will that eliminate (or reduce) the possibility of being infected with spyware/adware? Specter 0
@Para Perhaps this will be useful to Ruin (and myself as well) if we set up IE to only accept cookies on our prompt, will that eliminate (or reduce) the possibility of being infected with spyware/adware? Yes, it will help. But it will be a major pain in the ass for you guys. Everytime you go to a site, you are going to get multiple pop ups asking if you want the cookies. If you say no, some or all of the site wont display correctly in alot of cases. AV and a Router or a Firewall, will not keep spyware out. AV is not a spyware blocker, it strictly looks for viruses, period. A router and firewall cant stop it, becuase you have to accept cookies to get to the site or view it correctly. Cookies lead to spyware. It is part of internet life now, and to control it on your PC, Spybot and Adaware are the way to go. Its a simple thing to run it once a day, or however often you feel it necessary. Alot of free sites are free because advertisers pay these sites to advertise there products, and link to their sites, which start the spyware rolling. These days, Ad Aware and Spybot need to be a staple on your machine and are just as important as Anti Virus and Utility software. The best thing to do is get used to using it. Also, Id use both. They both catch stuff that the other misses. And always keep an eye out for the updated versions, and upgrade them when they come out.
Ruin 17
I hate to be a jerk, but this is severly important to me; I have papers to write. It's still locking up. Last time, it took 5 minutes. It's like if I give it one command before it processes another it freezes. Normally I could do that and it might bog down a hairlip, but still be good to go. I removed all the Spyware I could find, and even had Phantom look at my PC. Also, Internet Exlporer and Outlook Express have died and wont connect to anything. I'm using the Opera Browser now to connect; but IE and OE are worthless.
ZJJ 74
When that was happening to me 3 months ago, I found out that a lot of my resources were being eatin' up by all the junk I had starting up when I turned the machine on. I now only have three things open when I turn on my computer and I only open the other programs when necessary. I have found that I didn't need all that stuff open all the time. Cleaned out the registry, as well. I have spyblaster running and no longer get the spyware popups. I also run Ad-aware and Spybot regularly. Good luck...
Dannik 43
In case of emergency, if you can't determine the cause and resolve it quickly enough for your deadlines... you may be better off reverting to safe mode so you can get your work done, then work on the problem when you can focus on it better. Ruin 17
Thanks Dannik, I can't believe I never thought of that. @zjj, I think this issue is much deeper than Spyware.
ZJJ 74
My point is that I think you are draining your resources with programs that are open with or without your knowledge. IIRC, you have about 25 programs that open at startup, are they all necessary to be open during startup and continually be running? I also think that some of those programs were installed by spyware without your knowledge, which is why I mentioned those other programs. I was truly surprised at what was on my system that I didn't install. I will leave the rest of this to more knowledgeable computer people, but this was my experience with the same problem just three months ago.
Ruin 17
I think I also have a failing PSU. And Win XP has a Task Manager that lets me see what's running; and how much resources it's using.
Ruin 17
Alrigh,t I'm cleaning my registry now, but because of my wonderful D drive... I don't want to delete any entried with it specified as the drive... :'( I'm also going to run one of those Spyware Finders (NOT Adaware) and see what turns up.
