357mag 0
I put the disc in the tray closed the door, and got an error message saying: "The InstallEngine(iKernel.exe)could not be launched. The RPC server is unavailable." I talked with a support guy at Ubi and all he told me to do was go the the Windows Update site and download and install some updates. So far I've downloaded and installed IE 6 and trying to download and install Service Pack 4 for Win 2000. What do you think?
Specter 0
How old is your CD drive? A firmware update may be needed for the copy protection algorithm.
357mag 0
I discovered I was infected with the blaster worm. That might have something to do with it. I'll try it again. Where would I get a firmware update. Is that something I download? Edited August 14, 2003 by 357mag
Dannik 43
Normally you would pick up firmware at the drive's manufacturer's website, or your computer manufacturer's site. It's unlikely that it is a firmware issue, if the error you were getting mentioned the RPC server, and you had the msblast.exe worm, which directly affected the RPC server. Get rid of the blaster, and you *should* be good to go.
Specter 0
Shouldnt have to access the rpc server during install. I had that worm, and it didnt even effect the RvS reinstall I had to do. but I guess its possible. Still wouldnt hurt to do the firmware upgrade though. Get rid of the worm and let us know? Im curious.
