Crimson 0
If everything is working properly, Id suggest you dont touch anything.
Specter 0
Id leave it alone if its working also. Win98 doesnt like dx9x alot of the time. Dont fix it if it aint broke.
supasniper 0
Dont fix it if it aint broke. Very true *wanders off grumbling (sp?) about past ###### ups*
Specter 0
Remember, just because something new comes out, especially drivers and such, doesnt mean you have to use them.
dekela 0
ok, thanks guy's. i guess i will leave it as it is. cheers......
Specter 0
That isnt to say that updating is bad. It isnt. But if something is working well, especially when youre dealing with older tech, its best to sit back and watch what happens, before running out to update something that works fine. Parabellum 12
Id leave it alone if its working also. Win98 doesnt like dx9x alot of the time. Dont fix it if it aint broke. I wish someone would have told me that before I installed Dx9. As soon as I can get the program you told me about, I'm repartitioning, reinstalling Windows, and getting rid of Dx9. dekela 0
another question, what sort of frame rates should i be getting. with aa off, v/sync off etc. i get between 20 and 35 on most maps ( down to 15 on some). thats with no shadows, effects low and all else on high. this is with a 566 p3, 192 meg ram, on-board sound and refresh rate at 85Hz. also its a pci card cause my board dosen't have an agp slot. if i turn everything down and look at the sky, the best i can get is 65. also, what is the setting for allocating system ram to video in the nvidia properties do? will installing extra ram help with fps? cheers...... p.s i tried to over-clock the vid ram from 135, but even at 137 the game locks up after a while, is this normal? Crimson 0
Your frames are about right for your system. As for the overclocking, 2Mhz isnt going to give you a noticeable increase, so I suggest you go back to the default settings. As for the lockups, no, thats not supposed to happen. Try updating your video card drivers.
dekela 0
i can take the core speed from 200 up to 230 with out any probs, is this gain worth while? cheers......
Specter 0
I wouldnt OC anything, unless the entire system is set up for it. But that is just me.

Doubtful. your not going to get much more performance out of your rig. Overclocking the core by 30Mhz for a GF2, hmm. I would want to have a lot of air flow over the card, because the stock HS/F's on those things are quite small.

There are in fact several 98 users here at the site that had to go back to 8.1 and an older video driver, and it resolved thier issues. Like supa said, every puter is different, even if the hardware is the same. It depends on alot of things.
