hephaestus 0 Posted August 9, 2003 Share Posted August 9, 2003 Throughout my time at gr.net, which is about 1 1/2 years, I have noticed much change here at the forums: The crash, new forums, unrest in the world which has taken a few of our members to war, and a smaller but still significant problem-- the giving and taking of either actual or perceived offense. This last statement will be my focus. It could be agreed that whether Staff or member, none of us are perfect. We all have offended someone in our lifetime, whether we meant to do so or not. We have also been on the receiving end of offense. But, during this summer at the forum, there have been a lot of hot issues, and along with hot issues comes offense. And, it seems too much is being given and taken, again whether it be actual or perceived offense. I would, therefore, exhort us all, including myself, to extend some grace to each other before we offend and also when we believe we have been offended. We all know the rules, but instead of just simply following them, would not this site be that much better if we used a little tact and grace in our conversations? Many of us love this site and believe it to be the best forum around. But is this forum itself the best it can be? As good as I believe it is, I would say, "no." All of us have room for improvement whether we believe so or not, and so does the forum. We all do not necessarliy have to like each other, but that is no reason for name calling and flaming, even if our opinions are based on reasonable observations. I really enjoy this site and the whole community, and I want this place to shine more than any other, even if it is "just a game site." Call me an idealist, but some idealists actually try to apply their thoughts in everyday life, even when everyday life includes a gaming forum. It does not necessarly hurt to try.
