LetsReason 0
I was just curious as to whether we can animate our own...er...animations for movements by our characters. Okay, I know we can because I've seen the trailers on Chems work (great job there and salut). HOW does one go about creating their own animations for their character and, more importantly since I can figure out the animation part in 3ds is, how is it linked and commanded in the game and scripting? Any links for infor already out there? Thanks in advance.

Ruin 17
You can set certain animations for characters through IGOR. However, figuring out which is which can be a pain. Also, it is NOT possible to make your own animatioins for GR. The explination thanks to Piggyson: Q: Is there anyway to change the animations? A: There is currently not a simple way to do this. There are over 600 animations in Ghost Recon. In the code parts of these animations are pulled in to get the character to walk, shoot, die etc. So if the character was shooting while walking, they would most likely be playing a walk animation for the legs and torso, and then a shooting animation for the arms. The bottom line is that it would take for ever to find out what animation is doing what, when it is used in the game etc. Since I only deal with the models I don't have the best answer for this. I don't think it is feasible to do at the moment. I know there are over 70 death animations. So to change those you would have to edit 70 motions. You may want to post a message in the Ghostrecon.com Dev forums for Joe Sauder. He worked on the motion code
Dugite 0
Ruin The "NOT possible" statement is pretty definitive and doesn't seem to be qualified by Joe Drusts post. No where does he state that its not possible, hard, yes and in his opinion not "feasable at the moment" but not impossible. Joe Drust by his own admission worked only with the models not the animating. If you have any information from Sauder or the coders for the engine saying that this is not possible I'd love to here it, then I'll lay my experiments aside and concentrate on map object animation much like my HALO demo. But until then I'm having fun. Cheers
