Para's Adventures In OFP Land

Recommended Posts

How many times have you played GR, and thought, "Man, I wish the laser on this M4 SOPMOD actually worked", or "Man, I wish I could raise and lower my goggles." Well, if you play OFP, I'll be more than happy to oblige you. I've decided to try a limited-release BETA of my addon. Included are:

---daytime soldiers, with the ability to raise/lower goggles at your leisure

---nighttime soldiers with animated AN/PVS-7 night vision goggles (may not make the beta release, but they're almost done. I'm still working on the NVG model)

---US Peacekeepers which, when the game starts, receive a different gear loadout and unit insignia on the left arm each time

---A soldier which allows you to specify, via INIT field or script, your own unit insignia

---Several very cool weapons, including an M4 with a WORKING AN/PEQ-2 laser, and a Sig-Sauer P220 with animated slide

---Planned is a Special Forces soldier, with full HALO gear.

Please respond here, or PM me if you're interesting in taking part. I'll post some screenshots here as soon as I can.

:D

i never really got into this game, i found it not to be user friendly as far as usin mods go, good game as far as the campaign and all. maybe i'm just a idiot :stupid:

OFP modding is not for the impatient, the beginner, or the C++ ignoramus. It's OK to admit if you're a C++ ignoramus, I was (and still somewhat am.) :P IMHO, OFP modding is much, much more difficult than GR modding. There are so many steps involved, even for a simple project. On the flip side, OFP is much more moddable than GR. You can edit or change just about anything you want in OFP. It's easier for the end-user too. No activating or deactivating OFP mods. Just put them in the addons folder and start the game.

Oh, and the mission editor is absolutely the best there is. Once I got into the editor, I never played the campaign again.

EDIT -

As far as my OFP mod goes, I had to put it on the back burner this week, to finish up the .3ds pack that I just released. I began working on my OFP mod last night. Screens to follow tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm currently working on allowing reconnaisance units to attach/detach a suppressor to their weapon at will. I just have to figure out a bit of scripting, and that'll be done. I'm also working on desert weapons for the desert units. :)

The 'theme' of the mod is the 1st Infantry Division. I'm going to include other unit patches, though, so that the player can customize the soldiers for his/her own missions.

A working AN/PEQ-2A or PAQ-4C would be really cool, but I don't think it's possible to make it fully realistic. If you've managed that, then I'm impressed!

Does your PEQ-2 laser work only in infra-red, so only players with NVGs on can see the target point?

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but for example, say i wanted some m4's, i go one over to @war, and dl a m4 pack, u say i put them in the addons folder? then where can i use them from there?

EDIT: whats the poly field for OPR weapons?

I'm working on making it 'realistic' at the moment. My goal is to make it like BIS's red dot reticule, where it's somewhat visible normally, but really, really bright with NVG's. At the moment, it's not quite like that, but it is functional, you can turn it on and off,and aim with it. I'll finish the lighting/blending as soon as I can.

EDIT -

Even if I never get the laser really 'realistic', I'd still rather have it do something other than just sit there.

:)

@ Marcinko: Generally speaking, to use an addon, you simply download them, put them in the 'addons' folder, and then when you use the mission editor, they'll be available. IMHO, the mission editor is what makes OFP shine.

Weapon LOD's vary. The poly limits I've become accustomed to are:

Player view: <=3500

LOD1: Same as player

LOD2: <=1500

LOD3: <=500

LOD4: <=300

LOD5: <=60

LOD6: 4 (just a flat plane with a side-shot of the weapon)

So in order to use a mod, u have to make a mission?

No, you can make a mod without making a mission, but you can't play a mod without making a mission. Mission making in OFP is very, very easy though. OFP's mission editor is much easier to learn than IGOR is, and there's alot of documentation. BIS (the makers of OFP) actually support the modding community, unlike RSE and Ubi.

Cool. I guess I'd better not let you down then, eh? I'll zip you up a beta once you're all patched and I'm sure that it won't cause any crashes or hangs.

Ah...Is it a good game?

I like it. I just got the MH-60 Pack by BAS (a modding group) this morning. I generally don't like stuff by BAS, but these birds are smokin. I made a quick mission where my team of 4 men was on a bird flying over a city. When we reached the designated point, I gave the order, the bird stopped, and we all fast-roped to the ground. Once we were done, the bird went on its way. Really cool stuff. If you're not wearing goggles, and you walk into rotor wash, you'll be blinded by the dust, and you may start coughing.

IMHO, OFP is a better game than GR, simply because it's more well-rounded. No, it's not as pretty as GR, but you really don't notice that it's not pretty when your squad is getting pounded by artillery from 1Km away and dodging small arms fire, trying to take back the position you lost earlier.

Yeah, I just got those MH-60's and WOW! I liked the BAS Ranger/Delta pack but everything else they made I was never fond of...UNTIL NOW! Those birds freakin' ROCK! How do you script the whole fast roping or ladder insertion with them Para, I'm slowly getting into the more advanced things in the editor like triggers and changing loadouts on units. How do you use all that stuff with the MH-60's? Thanks man

Oh yeah, forgot. I love that M4A1 with EoTech they included with the pack also, that thing's sexy! That whole JAM concept seems pretty nice too, what do you think about it?
