Super 64
Playing a free for all firefight last night in the old castle. Im in the prone position on the wall, looking out over the castle courtyard. I can hear a firefight over by the 2 houses with the white picket fencing. But even using the zoom on my SA80, I can only see muzzle flashes as they battle it out. I zoom in and patiently watch one gap between the buildings. Suddenly the firefight ends and the victor stands up to sprint to the next building. He crosses the gap and I quickly fire off 2 rounds. Although I could barely see his sillouette, I tag him and catch a glimpse of his legs flying up in the air as he hit the ground from a full run. Patience and setting up your shot pays off. Not only for snipers but riffleman too!
dekela
thats very true, as long as you have the luxury of being able to wait without getting nailed yourself.
Schenkanator
You're right, it certainly does. And some people have the nerve to call it camping. To them I say "go back to CS"
killermk
Amen. It's amazing how many times one can be called a camper, with no real justification.... BUT camping during a LAN can be fun - talking to people "setting up tent, now making a campfire...Damn forgot the sleeping bag!" always puts them off... Cobblers
thats very true, as long as you have the luxury of being able to wait without getting nailed yourself. I was gonna say the same thing. I wouldn't call it camping though. It is "Tactical Positioning"
MarkVanDamme
"go back to CS" More like Doom!
Super 64
I know what you guys are talking about. In any other game, I would call what I just did in Ghost Recon "camping". But as you all know, GR is a fairly realistic war sim, where the Run and Gun, lone ranger style just doesnt cut it. Well, if you like dying... it does. It just would'nt be fun if you could run 40mph and jump 6 stories high like in Unreal 2003, now would it? ha! dekela
i dont know if i would call it camping, if you are just waiting for a guy to stick his head out so you can pop it, then i think that is like cobblers said, tactical positioning
Aussie_Terry
if your not using sensors then your not camping in my opinion

I was at a LAN last weekend introducing some mates to the joys of GR and the two complaintds I got (which stopped the guys from playing it mind you) were `no jump' and lack of head bob. How sad. I mean, c'monnn, what do you WANT to jump on or over? and head bob? like you notice it in real life. He's just waiting for HL2 so he can get CS2 I spose.... Matt03
Camping is someone who stays in one position without knowing where the other players are. He or she sits in one spot waiting for someone to walk by. If you know where the players are then you aren't camping your just waiting for a clean shot. I firmly believe that is what most ppl do, wait for their shots. I think `camping' went the way of the dodo about the time that quake 2 was replaced. Yeah, like a soldier with 125 pounds of gear, ammo and weapons would do much jumping. And head bobbing? Now that I think about it, all the war footage ive seen on the History channel... all those armies... every one of them, heads bobbing. Too funny. Some people are just put off by a realistic war sim. LOL (this always opens up a whole can of worms) So If I'm sniping and I happen to be covering a certain area, am I camping since I do not know where anyone is? Super 64
Well I think it really comes down to the fact that "camping" is percieved differently in different games. In Quake, Unreal T., CS... ect. camping would be very unsportsmanlike. In GR, laying quietly covering one area is not only a realistic military strategy but an acceptable one to a certain extent in the game play. Although, since GR is a slower paced game than CS, you take the risk of actually falling asleep at your PC if you lay there for too long. Ha!
