Zantar45 0
I just installed GR/DS/IT on a new(er) PC. I start GR and the splash screen pops up and the GR status (?) icon pops up in the taskbar at the bottom. It then fails to load GR. I have no idea what is wrong with it other then the fact I might be having Direct X problems. Here are the specs **sorry for length** Ike.log ***** User's system configuration ***** CPU: GenuineIntel 1103 MHz Pentium III Coppermine RAM: 127 MB O/S: Microsoft Windows 2000 5.1 Service Pack 1 build 2600 RSOptions: Could not open options file options.xml for reading, using defaults Ghost Recon (RELEASE) version = 1.3.5.0(0) RSDisplayMgr::CreateGameWindow: Creating a 800x600 window at 0,0 on monitor hp pavilion mx50 attached to Intel® 82810 Graphics Controller RSDisplayMgr::CreateGameWindow: Game running on primary display hp pavilion mx50 attached to Intel® 82810 Graphics Controller RSDirect3DRenderer::BuildDeviceList: No windowing adapters found RSDirect3DRenderer: Could not build device list RSDisplayMgr::CreateRenderer: Could not initialize renderer RSUIMgr::Initialize() : Could not initialize mDisplayMgrIkeGameMgr::Initialize() : Could not initialize UI_MGR: -1 IkeCrash.log GhostRecon caused an Access Violation in module GhostRecon.exe at 001b:0051be00. Specter 0
OK bro. This is the second thread with the same exact issue in 2 days ! ! LOL !! After reading this, check here. Check your bios, and make sure you are allocating at least 16 MB RAM to video. But the main issue I think is, that you only have 128 MB RAM, and That is just barely enough to run XP. XP by itself with no tuning will use between 125 and 147 MB just by itself. And then once you allocate an additional 16 MB or 32 MB to the video, well, there ya go. The onboard video, without additional system RAM only has 4MB. It needs the additional System RAM dedicated to it by the BIOS. If you can, you need to double or triple your RAM. Also make sure that your Page or swap file is set to a minimum and maximum of 768MB. And take a look at the XP Tweak Tutorial pinned here.
Zantar45 0
Ouch So I guess Im a little bit Until I dish out some change for Ram. So after buying some Ram (x2 sticks of 256MB sound good?) would you recommend I also uninstall GR? Oh yeah.....Thank you Phantom
Specter 0
Yes, I would, but only in this case because you are effectively going to be changing the physical properties of your video card when you allocate the extra RAM. The onboard chip is a decent one, and will work fine for GR. If you are going to get the 512, which is a good amount for any XP or 2K machine, first, just make sure your mobo will support that much, and second, when you go into the BIOS to allocate Sys RAM to video, do as much as you can upto 64MB if allowable. It depends on the BIOS on how much it will let you do, but all do at least 16MB, and alot of them allow 32 or 64 also.
dekela 0
also try cutting the display back from 24bit to 16bit. i know i keep saying it but sometimes it does make a difference
Specter 0
I dont know about alot of you guys, and if Im speaking inaccurately here, please tell me, but isnt 24 bit nothing but trouble anyway? I havent heard of anyone able to make it run in 24 bit. Regardless of that, it isnt going to run on the video card with only 5.5 MB RAM. And at 128, when you have to run XP at an average of using 125, and GR uses about 80 by itself, and you nedd to get 16 or more if possible to video, that RAM upgrade should take care of all your issues, and speed that baby up. But a I said, check the BIOS and make sure first that it can do this for you. It should. IF not, then you'll have to buy a video card.
dekela 0
i had a look for that shared memory bit in my bios the other day on my pavillion but i can't seem to find it i didn't realise that xp was such a mem hogg. i don't know about the 24 bit bit...? but i can't tell the difference between that and
Specter 0
I also have a Pavillion Desktop, but mine doesnt have onboard video, mine came with a 32 MB TNT 2 Pro card in it. The bios option is only there for onboard video, and i only say this Dekela, cuz im not familiar with your specs. And if you do have OB video, I cant look at mine, because i dont have the option available. Check everything in the BIOS bro. Sometimes they hide the setting where you wouldnt normally look. Proprietary BIOS's are strange buggers.
warhawk 0
This is the fourth time for me that I have heard of GR not starting with the Intel onboard video chip. Twice for people that I have tried to get GR to run for and two here. In all only one person, Aggressor, was able to get GR to run with this chipset. Could this be an issue that is just now becoming more apparent for some reason? On the machines I tried to install it on, machine A was running xp with 512mb of ram with 32 dedicted to the video. Machine B was running 98SE with 256mb and 16 dedicated to the video. This may be something else we might want to consider as we try to find a solution for this Phantom. Just a thought. We need to find out from aggessor as well but are you running the newest version of video drivers Zantar? It could be a driver issue. Just another thought anyway. I need to see if I can find it again but I think I read somewhere, that there is some driver conflict between the via chipset and new nvidia drivers, I am wondering if this might not be a similar case. Stout Hearts Warhawk EDIT: One other thing I run 24 bit on both my machine and my wife's with and the game runs. It might be the cause of the lower frame rates I was talking about in my post in this thread but it does seem to work for us. Edited July 31, 2003 by warhawk
dekela 0
bios to me is like trying to speak clingon, it's got me buggered <---look a clingon . its a pheonix bios that has a lot of stuff in it that it won't let you change . as soon as i can get the dough i'll be going for a seperate vid card. gr aint as pretty to look at when most of the settings are on low @warhawk, mine has the intel ob vid, 192m ram and 98se, it works but it could be a lot better by the way, i had this prob with a prog called celestia, astronomy thing program, it would display a splash then ctd. it told my to d/l an open gl driver which i did then it ran fine, so did gr after that. WhiteKnight77 1
My Z-Buffer is set at 24 and I run GR with no problems. My video resolution is 32. With the onboard video I had with my Gateway (yes GR ran on it, though not perfectly) it ran at 16 for both.
