Havok 30
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good remedy to get printer ink ( about 15ml) off your skin with something that is available around the house ? I was refilling my printer cartridge with those syringe kits you can buy and had a 'wee' accident . Okay it is not really 'wee', I had the better part of a 20ml bottle of black ink jump out and onto both of my hands . I have been scrubbing with soap to no avail and both my hands are totally black !! I know, I know, I am a tool ! I was gonna use my bottle of cartridge flush but it says to avoid contact with skin and eyes , so methinks that is not a good idea . I feel like I just got finger printed or something, at least that stuff washes off easily, or so I have been told . Man, this sucks ! P.S. I live in a condo so I don't have a garage with the usual stuff like turpentine, etc. EDIT : And to top it all off the frickin printer will not print anything but blank pages now. I give up :'( Edited July 31, 2003 by =UAL=Havok
XavierOnasis 0
It's gonna be unpleseant, but barring acetone or mineral spirits, I'd use steel wool.
Dannik 43
If I recall, dry erase marker cleaning fluid removes both toner and liquid ink quite nicely. If you can't find access to that, something like a household "Orange Glo" or other citrus based fluid (even lemon juice with a bit of baking soda) should help. Oh, and a good heavy scrubber like a nailbrush or scouring pad (like a kitchen pot scrubber or even toothbrush) should help the above fluids work. I'm not 100%, but it's not like squeezing a lemon to no avail will make it worse. "
snakebite1967 0
lots of scrubbing try some retail mechanic soap and add some sand to it failing that you could also try some bleach i know it gets the grease stains out of my hands and nails btw be thankfull you arent the guy who used rhino lining on his 4x4 and had to take a leak now that stuff realy doesnt come out and no matter what im not taking wire wool to my johnson Edited July 31, 2003 by snakebite1967
Specter 0
Geez guys ! ! He wont have fingers left. LOL When I was serviceing printers bro, I used nail polish remover. Works great. So does GOJO Mechanics' soap with Pumice. Next time, use rubbers mate!
Havok 30
Thanks Phantom...the only ingredient I had was nail polish( so I'm a cross-dresser ) but unfortunately I used the rest of the bottle to do the back of my hand . I figure I can hide my palms anyways till I can get to the store and replace the bottle or the g/f gonna open a can of whoop ass on me in the morning . Next time, use rubbers mate! I thought of that bro' but I only have three left and ten fingers .

XavierOnasis 0
Uh-huh. It be sleepy time for Phantom. The steel wool was to be used if ya didn't have acetone. Which you did.
Havok 30
The steel wool was to be used if ya didn't have acetone. Which you did. My bad, I didn't realize acetone was nail polish remover . I used the good Sally Hansen stuff with Vitamin E , chamomile and pro-vitamin B5 . Good thing I live with a woman cause I didn't wanna run to the 24hr drug store to but nail polish in the middle of the night .
Xian Saint 0
HAH HAH! This is hilarious...sorry Havok...I just have this mental image of one of those as seen on TV info-mercials...that says... Refill your printer ink cartridges for a fraction of the cost...no mess... And then I see a picture of you with your hands in the sink...completely blackened...with steel wool and industrial strength detergent...scrubbing the top layer of skin away... Good for a chuckle indeed...

magnumkp 0
Last week I was transporting a printer between my 2 offices (greedy huh?), anyway it was nicely sitting on top of the post I was also carrying, on the passenger seat of my car. My boot/trunk was full you see. Anyway, I get out of my (prestine) car and move the printer to get to the post to drop it through a post box. I then notice black ink had dribbled out of the bottom of this £40 printer onto my grey/tan seats. Not a good day. It was roughly this size: ______________ |||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ ______________ (artists impression) Anyway as soon as I got home I got some upholstery cleaner, some kitchen roll and a bagful of elbow grease and started removing this stain. All was going well and it looked clean (though wet) so I left it. Next morning: oh it still looks wet. It was dry. Oh *heck* i said, it was also double the size ___________________________ |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ ___________________________ I have read that meths will clean it, but I have left it and hope the sun will fade it (like most print outs fade.) This doesn't seem to be happening though so I think I will have to scrub it again. Edited July 31, 2003 by magnumkp

BlueRose_76 0
That are CRAP situations, but.. HAHA Do you know that average weight of the ink itself costs more than the same weight in gold. New 007 featuring; The Man with the Golden Hands or The Man with the Golden Carseat Man, my Epson A3+ stays where it is and no hassle withe the cartriges

WhiteKnight77 1
Try GoJo or similar hand cleaner that we mechanics use to clean our hands. Just visit your local auto parts store.

Havok 30
I'm happy I don't have to re-fill my ink cartridges..... I get them free I used to as well but then I switched jobs. For anyone who cares my hands are back to normal now. It was nothing a bottle and a half of nail polish remover didn't take care of . Doused a rag in it and scrubbed away . Though I got a little light headed from the fumes . I bought the high quality ink and it was fun getting it off . Wish I had a digi camera to post pix of themcause it was really bad . Luckily none got on the computer but I have a blotter? I think ya call on my desk. Big calendar where ya tear the months off. Soaked right thru to December And I screwed up the cartridge cause it won't print so I am ticked off.
