hartog 0
hey guys is it possible, yes i am a newbie. to put a texture on a texture kind of like cloneing in photoshop? I am working on a gound plane. i put on the base texture but i would like to "clone" on some dirt around some things. is there a way? or do i have to build a new textrue in PS and retexture the plane. thanks for the info i hate hitting the wall like this
shiver 0
Just select the polys that you want the texture applied to and apply the texture. It might be better though fixing the texture in ps and re-applying it. Because if you want shading from trees or any other objects, it will require more than 1 dark map depending on how many times you apply new textures to areas.
hartog 0
Thanks shiver I was probley not clear on what i was looking for, and this may not be possible. but i have grass and i have done the UVM map thing and tiled it, becuase it is a large area. now i want to put "dirt" around some objects i am making. so i just want to "clone" the dirt on to the grass with out going back to PS. is that possible? or do you have to go to PS? sorry if i am unclear. i know what i want to do, i just don't know how/ or if it is even possible to do it thanks

deleyt 0
Are you talking about detailed textures (IE:composite-textures) ? Are you using those and still need a seperate texture on top of that?
hartog 0
Well i have never used composite textures, maybe i need to I am still learning 3dsm. so i go to PS and create/combine any new textures that i use. is there a way to overlap them? thanks in advance

deleyt 0
i know i still have more to learn, but i will try to understand it all. maybe I should by the 3dsm bible. Just look on the net for tutorials on 3DSM....there are lots of those. The helpfile inside 3DSM is usually a good resource aswell. I use it all the time.
shiver 0
If you want the whole texture to be one texture file then you're going to have to create a new texture. That would be the easiest thing to do. I think what you want to do is just paint over areas where you decided to have something different like dirt. In 3dsm 4 you can't do that. I don't know about newer versions.. I think in r6 you might be able to do that. THe way I suggested earlier, by selecting those polys that you want to change textures on and applying the textures to them.. that has it's limitations. You're restricted to the shape of the polys. So maybe that's why you don't wanna do it that way. The only way to get around that would be to create a new object in the shape of the area you want to retexture and that would be more work. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just spray textures onto your objects like you're painting a picture?
hartog 0
it would be nice to be able to spray textures. it would end a lot of thanks for your time guys Hartog
Dugite 0
Hartog, Look around for a prog called Deep Paint 3D with Texture weapons. It plugs into Max and you can swap between Max, Photoshop and Deep paint. You can spay your textures in 3d. Dugite.
