i've been told (haven't read the manual all the way) that you have better accuracy (especially as a sniper) when crouching as opposed to standing or laying on the ground. i've also noticed that the crosshairs spread less on some weapons when crouch/walking rather than just walking upright. can anyone confirm these things or offer up other hint like these subtle differences?

The differences are not so subtle, there is a big Ret spread dependant on your stance and movement.

EG:

M24 Rifle:

<RunStandAccuracy>1000</RunStandAccuracy>

<RunCrouchAccuracy>1500</RunCrouchAccuracy>

<RunProneAccuracy>600</RunProneAccuracy>

<WalkStandAccuracy>120</WalkStandAccuracy>

<WalkCrouchAccuracy>300</WalkCrouchAccuracy>

<WalkProneAccuracy>600</WalkProneAccuracy>

<ShuffleStandAccuracy>46</ShuffleStandAccuracy>

<ShuffleCrouchAccuracy>95</ShuffleCrouchAccuracy>

<ShuffleProneAccuracy>70</ShuffleProneAccuracy>

<StationaryStandAccuracy>2</StationaryStandAccuracy>

<StationaryCrouchAccuracy>1</StationaryCrouchAccuracy>

<StationaryProneAccuracy>0.5</StationaryProneAccuracy>

i absolutely understand the sense behind letting the crosshairs settle and shooting from a still position. just wondering about the subtle accuracy differences between the three shooting positions themselves. thanks guys. any other responses and ifo is still welcome.

Firing from the prone position is always the most accurate way to shoot. There are fewer forces playing on the rifle as your complete body is supported and not suseptible to wind forces or breathing (as much as in crouched or standing would.) For a sniper rifle in game, IIRC the differences are minute, but enough to show.

It also depends on the kind of weapon used. The figure of Pav Low shows very clear the immens variation accuracy in different positions. Some weapons also show the haircross as a cross (precision-weapons like sniper rifles) while others are positioned far from each other (like heavy machine guns) which are less accurate.

It fun to play with another weapon than the one youre used to. To shoot in optimal accuracy in single shot modus youll have to adept the 'rythm' of the new gun.

If someone tries to shoot at me, the first thing I do is duck on to the floor most of the time. Sometimes whilst in the motion of falling you can still get some very accurate shots off. Besides, the smaller the target the harder it is to shot at.
