Earl
Yeah, we're disorganized. We're not even really a team. We don't even really have a title for the project.
Suicide Commando
Well at least it keeps everyone in suspense.
Parabellum
The US Marines didn't choose the Ghost Recon engine for their small unit tactical training, they chose OFP: http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com Despite the many issues that RSE fans can complain about, OFP offers way more possibilities, including realistic artillery and mortar fire (as done for VBS1, and soon by CoC for OFP). CoC has also created torpedos that use the same seeking instructions. velocities, etc as the real ones. I can only say that I haven't played an honest game of GR for over a year, but OFP keeps offering new possibilities. Raven Shield is a waste of my hard drive space - not because it isn't a good game, but because it's not interesting enough to keep me playing. How many times can you slice the pie??? One of our betatesters made a "Pilots Down" mission. The vehicle choices aren't fully realistic, but it features a rescue team of our Marines in an MH-6 littlebird, supported by an AH-1 Cobra. Two pilots are spawned at random locations on the island, so they have to use navigation skills to figure out their position and radio the rescue team while evading patrolling Russians. When the pilot hears the rescue helos getting near, he pops a smoke grenade and waits for an exciting rescue. Sometimes there's BMPs too close to the extraction zone, so the littlebird has to drop some Marines with AT then take off back to safety while the infantry and AH-1 secure the area. A side objective is to plant demolitions on the downed aircraft if it can be found. I'm just waiting for BAS to release the MH-60's and SOAR units. I can tell you that as a downed pilot, when you chuck that smoke grenade, and the MH-6 comes in for a landing with all the dust kicked up by the new rotorwash scripts, and Russian BMPs closing in, it's quite exciting. Something like the intro to Proof of Life... Excellent post Earl. Some of the very same reasons I spend so much time in OFP land. I'm starting to enjoy modding GR again, but I still don't really like to play it. It's too linear and limiting.
The_Slink
This isn't so much an "Aaargh!" as an "AHHHHHH!" I can't seem to beat the level where the lieutenant is ambushed. Any advice?
Parabellum
This isn't so much an "Aaargh!" as an "AHHHHHH!" I can't seem to beat the level where the lieutenant is ambushed. Any advice? Make sure to grab an M60 before you board the M113. When you get out of the M60, make like Michael Johnson for the trees ahead of you. Advance from cover to cover, and stay down. The rest of your squad is going to get mowed down no matter what you do, but don't just go and hide; you'll get yelled at by the Colonel if you do! RooK
I got yelled at and I didn't hide! One of those quirky OFP scoring things, sometimes they give you bad scores even if you do destroy enemies. But after that I never got in trouble with the colonel again... The tank missions themselves were the highlight I think.

The tank missions themselves were the highlight I think. Yeah, I guess it depends on how well you score. On the second mission, where the Russian tanks ambush your forces, I ended up being the only person on my squad to survive, and just barely at that! Bullets and tracers were zipping by me as I ran from cover to cover.
The_Slink
As soon as we get told to get back, I do so. Pronto. I actually don't like campaigns. Single missions are more fun for me. I also prefer being able to choose what weapons I can have (GR).
RooK
Slink, if you get far enough in the campaign where you control your own squad, you'll get to choose weapons for each member (including you) of the squad. From the M16/Grenade Launcher to the M21 to the LAW.
Parabellum
You can also script your single missions the same way. And let me tell you, Ruskies get their heads down real fast when 6 or 8 guys are firing M240's at them.

NiteStalka
This is an old old thread, but I like this game very much, regardless of graphics and other such unconviences. I still play this game today. A part of a clan for it still. Been running since the game came out. PS: If interested we are the [23rd] Ground Division. http://www.freewebs.com/23rdground Our site got messed up recently but its partially back up. Eras3r999
I quite enjoyed the single missions as well as the total conversions like Battle Over Hokkaido and FDF. The game's great to be as dated as it is. I can hardly wait for the sequel or modern update or whatever they're calling it to come out. The_Slink
How do you get a mod to work?
Parabellum
How do you get a mod to work? Depends. Is it a mod or an addon? If it's an addon, it goes in your \addons folder, and the units will be available in the mission editor. If it's a mod, you have to start the game with a command line switch. Sart
Well Ive been playing the demo almost every night (And forgetting my GR controls even more! ) and I'm really impressed. Nice to have to aim with gun sights instead of a magic dot for a change. Ill be getting it, I found the game and both its expansions for only $30. Now I just need money for: Full Spectrum Warrior Brothers In Arms Ghost Recon 2 Steel Beasts 2 Joint Operations Crap... EDIT - Hows the mission editor?
Parabellum
OFP's mission editor is daunting at first, but it's unbelievably powerful, and actually very, very simply once you spend a couple of hour in it. The best part is that you can edit and play on the fly. Just put some stuff in, and go at it. You can also add custom sounds and scripts; it's very, very, very powerful.
