Specter 0
Not me man. Im waiting. They said 9.0 was stable too, and we all know where that led. If 9.0a is working well, why mess with it until more reviews are in?
RooK 0
Because MS is lazy and DX9a still didn't have all the features DX9 was supposed to contain. Their head DX man went to work for Ati about a year ago and is one reason why they delayed DX9 for so long, and they're still trying to peice it together.
NightCrawler 137
My sys is running better then it ever has(knock on wood), so I'll wait and see what the future brings.
Havok 30
Methinks me wait as well till I see what's up with it and listen to everyone else's horror stories "
WhiteKnight77 1
I am still running DX9 with no problems. I won't upgrage unless I really have to.
Specter 0
Im sticking with 9.0a until there is a concrete, bonafide reason not too. DX9.0 left a very bad taste in my mouth, and we all know what bad directx does, and we usually end up FFR'ing to get rid of it.
ghost gamer 0
gotta say this....I have Raven Shield(I know, I know...smack me along side the head right now )and it prompts to install either dx 9.0 or 9.0a...I sat there for 10-15 minutes debating...I have dx 8.1 and all my games run fine on it...sooooo I decided it would be better to not install 9.0(or 9.0a, whichever it was) and have RS not work than to install it and have RS work, but my other games crash . Anyway, I did not install the newest dx and RS ran great on 8.1 all the way through...I will not change my dx version until I absolutely have to...
Stinger 0
So far so good over here, RVS, GR, GTAVC, RalliSport and Sims all work so far just fine. Ill post any problems.
Specter 0
@GG The one that came with RvS is 9.0, and it blew chunks. It is wise the way you think. I was not as wise as you, and I was a very sorry individual, cursing and throwing things while I FFR'd. I was so ticked, I almost stabbed my PC with my Cold Steel Special Projects SEAL Knife ! ! It was ugly. Anyway, I'm sure I will be going to 9.0b at somepoint, but not now since I have nothing that requires it, and 9.0a works fine. I'll let Stinger be a guinea pig. Wait 3 months or so and go from there.
ghost gamer 0
Phantom110565....God, that has to be one of the most frustrating things ....I wonder ,and maybe this is a silly question, why don't dx versions come with an uninstall program ?...Correct me if I am wrong, but if one installs a version of dx there is no easy way to uninstall it? " and can you go and download older versions?...thats the stuff that was running through my head...I am gonna build a pc from scratch...soooo I guess I will become very familiar with dx 9.0a / 9.0b... Stinger 0
There are ways to uninstall certain versions of DX. None are supported by MS however. I uninstalled 9.0 sucessfully with a nifty little program I still have it even.
ghost gamer 0
Stinger....where can I get it? ...thanks...
supasniper 0
I got 9.0b and all seems fine, i ran 3D Mark 03 and it ran with no probs
Specter 0
The thing is, depending on Windows version, whether it will or not. Directx9 isnt supposed to uninstall at all. IN XP, you alomost have a shot if you havent upgraded directx. You can try what Stinger did, but he is one of the lucky ones. The problem is directx 'marries itself to the kernel, often times rendering it inoperable if you take a piece of it away. 8 or9 out of 10 times, a removal of directx will hoes an MS OS, as it is part of the system. With 9x/ME, pretty much count on an FFR. With XP, I believe MS says it CANNOT be removed at all, and DX 9x CANNOT be removed either.
Stinger 0
Stinger....where can I get it? ...thanks... Do a Windows update, and then it should appear as an avilable update for you. The thing is, depending on Windows version, whether it will or not. Directx9 isnt supposed to uninstall at all. IN XP, you alomost have a shot if you havent upgraded directx. Yeah I was, I dont know how many times I have read on forums of botched attempts to uninstall dx9 and its variants. But the way the tool I used worked was that it took ur OS cd (with DX 8.1) and replaced all the files in safe mode. It wasn't very complicated and was very smooth but the other 40 ways to do it all seem kinda questionable and don't work well if at all. I played some more VC again today seems fine. I will did 3D Mark '01 without a hitch but I haven't tried '03 yet. All SiSoft sandra tests appear to be fine also.
ghost gamer 0
Stinger / Phantom 110565....thanks....you guys just confirmed my suspicions on how I thought dx worked ...believe me....the uninstall program/procedure Stinger used will be kept in the back of my mind as an emergency procedure only... Stinger 0
9 sucked ###### I had to uninstall it too. But 9a and 9b seem okay so far. If u have trouble though we'll be here. Edited July 25, 2003 by Stinger
