Buffalo-6 0
ok for my second post I figure I may as well dive right in......... I have been lurking in here and other GR forums for about a month or so. Just reading, getting informed, seeing whats out there. From here I have been led to several great mods and lots of other info and for that I am grateful. The time and effort put into all of the mods is stunning. But sometimes I feel the need to tweek something for my use/enjoyment/sanity and for those of the group I play with. Here's the thing, I found 3 mods that I love but having to cull thru 129 kits is grinding. Also others (me for example) would rather have Gun A with Gun C instead of Gun E. So after reading a lot of posts and tutorials I decided to "Rekit" a mod I like and make a "Weapons Only" mod out of my favorite guns and kits from here and there. I have read several posts by others about models from this guy with textures from other guy and so on. Am I going to cause some "Mod Guru" to get bent because I wanted to customize his hard work and effort in order to make the game better for my experence and thst of the small gaming group I play with? To be honest I cant model, I dont have the body for it.....er....I mean I can but only in Autocad but bearing plates and beam connections really dont come into play here. Do I need to ask peoples permission, let them know what I'm doing. I really dont want to get tagged as someone trying to pass off others hard work as my own. Hell it took me all week to figure out how all the parts of a .gun file went together. I guess I could just do it and go on but if I wanted to ask a question about something specific I dont want to get hammered for messing around in someone elses mod. This is not for the general public, just a few gaming buddies I play with. Just figured I'd ask. ::::::looks around:::::: "Now where did I put that flack jacket?" Thumper1518 62
INCOMING!!!!! I did something very similar to what you did and made a public mod of it. The thread is in this forum somewhere, or see News Date Jun 23. Anyway, the difference seems to come about when (or if) you want to release your re-configured work to the general public. Every modder I sought permission from except two responded to my requests for permission to use their work. One never responded (possible language barrier) and the other had vanished from modding/online. I just did not use their work in my mod. I think you'll find that the best modelers out there are more than willing to share their work and help other modders as long as credit is given where it is due. No, really, you can take off that flak-jacket. Besides, it's useless against the BMG 50 JK
ET2_USN 0
I was thinking the very same thing Buffalo. How did you extract the weapons that you wanted??? Please do tell And like you, I would never dream of claiming ownership of someone elses work. If fact, any compilation of my doing would never make it to online play. Having all my favorite weapons on 1 mod would be very handy.
Incubus 0
If it's a personal mod for your own enjoyment, do whatever you want. It's not like you are releasing it to the public or something. I do the same thing, making customized kits for myself and a few friends that I play GR with over our LAN. There are just certain kits that don't exist, and you if you want a particular combo you have to do it yourself. Personally, I use an M24 with an MP-5 as my secondary gun (similar to Chavez from "Clear and Present Danger"). That was my personal preference, and I had to kit it myself. So, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Lancer 1
Basically Buff if its for personal use (I know you've heard that term before ) or just restricted to use by a unit/clan then its cool. If you go public, without the consent of the original makers, you are viewed as one step down from pondlife on the evolutionary scale. Laters mate
