[SOTO] -=VOLT=-
GhostRecon.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I've unistalled and reinstalled ghostrecon and my video driver many times but I still get this error. Anyone found out how to solve this yet? I even deleted ubi soft from my regestry with no luck. I have DX 9 Bata, didn't know it was a bata, it was posted on a forum as DX9. The person said they had speed increases from it. Now I wish I didn't have it. The DX Uninstaller doesnt support win XP so I'm stuck. I dont want to reformat my HD, I'm in the middle of playing two games and I'll lose my saved games. Anyone know when DX9 final release will be ready? Maybe that'll fix it. Edited January 19, 2003 by [SOTO] -=VOLT=-

SOTOMac
Go to ; http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/d...loads/drx90.asp And DL that Version. AFAIK - DX 9.0 is now a Fully Released Version. At Least from Microsoft it appears to be. I've scanned the FAQ to see if it is still a BETA and Nope - It looks like its not a BETA anymore. I'm running it as well as Most of the Team and Its a Good DX - IMO, and theirs so far... Another thing is to go back to a System Restore Point on XP that was before the Point that You'd installed the BETA - DX9.0, and then Select that Point on Your System and then Go back to It. You'll loose Config. changes and DL'ed Files done since the System Restore Point but Your System will at least be reverted to what it was before the Issues Developed. So try the First Method and Failing that - Try the Second to get back to a Place We can start again From. Please repost with Your Results ( If any ). BTW - Love the Handle Bro... Stinger
SOTO, is there any truth in that if you play people in MP and you have DX9 and they have DX8 that you will get probs? I read that at microsofts site and they say that could happen thoguh Microsoft is ussually overcautious.
Super-Bob
That wouldn't be a problem.
Stinger
Are ya sure? Microsoft- Due to enhancements in the way DirectPlay functions, it is strongly recommended that all users who want to join or host multiplayer games upgrade to DirectX 9.0. A user with earlier versions of DirectX may have trouble joining or hosting games, or my see a significant performance reduction when playing with users who have 9.0 installed. So DirectX 9 is out of beta and works fine now? Is nVidia gonna change their drivers for it soon? Edited January 21, 2003 by Stinger
[SOTO] -=VOLT=-
OK, I reformated my HD and now GR works. I still need to install the patches and mods, but it looks like its running now. I'll leave DX9 alone for a while. LOL.

Well - While the ReadMe may say what is Included in Your Quote - I have to say that I have experienced nothing but Improvements over the Previous Versions of DX with this Latest Install. And No Issues to Mention at all about Gaming with others not having the same Version of DX installed. -=VOLT=-,Jan 20 2003, 19:37 PM]OK, I reformated my HD and now GR works. [SOTO] -=VOLT=-
Never mind, it has did it again. I installed the patches, the addons, and mods I had before when it worked and nothing. It no longer starts. I have never had a problem with a game like this. Since it worked with windows XP before with the above paches and mods, my only guess now would be the video card drivers? I have the latest nvidia drivers for the geforce4, the 41.09. I don't know what to do from here besides just give up. I'm not reformating again, thats for sure. From what I have been told by other SOTO members who I work with, they use the same drivers on XP with DX9 and have no problems, so I'm lost here. SOTOMac
-=VOLT=-,Jan 21 2003, 15:18 PM]I'm not reformating again, thats for sure. From what I have been told by other SOTO members who I work with, they use the same drivers on XP with DX9 and have no problems, so I'm lost here. OK - Well First off ; Memo to Self / Never Install a Mod to Your "GR" Mod's Directory ( Or any Mod's Directory for that Matter ) if You want to be sure that THEIR ( 3rd Party Modder's ) Install won't corrupt Your Original Installation of "GR". This can and does happen with some Installs where they'll overwrite already Installed Original Game Files - Thereby preventing You from running Your Game due to the Game not having the Files it needs. Here is what I always do when DL'ing & Installing Mods... - Mod X is DL'ed. - Mod X is Extracted to a Temp. Folder I'd already made for that purpose. - Mod X is then Drag and Dropped into the "GR" Mods Directory. - Any Shortcuts made by the Install are then Manually Redirected by Myself to the Right Locations on My HD, or simply Deleted if no other options is available as a New Shortcut can be created Later, if desired. - Reboot My PC. That being said - The First thing that a Person should have done If they'd had troubles such as Yours was to ; | Troubleshoot - Troubleshoot - Troubleshoot | So that once You were back up and Running - It would've been readily obvious as to just what was the Issue with Your "GR" not working. No Worries Bro - We'll get You up and running, and ALL without a Reformat... Lets look at the following Method of Fixing Your Installation of "GR". Before We get started though - Drag and Drop all of the Files that You want to save from Your Current Installation of "GR" and then place them in a safe place on Your PC. Then - Uninstall all of "GR", "DS", and "IT" and Reboot. - Norton Utilities Fix for "GR", "DS", and "IT". «-----------------------------------------------------» This is usually the Last Resort for Me to fix a problem with "GR", but sometimes this is all that will set things right. Therefore I've put together a Method for fixing "GR" and getting it to run as it was designed to run by "RSE" and "Ubi". It is My Hope that by Using this Method - There will be less Problems experienced by People attempting to Play and Enjoy "GR". - DL Norton Utilities. This is a Fully Finctional 30 Day Free Trial of the Program. Once You've used it to correct any Errors You have, You can then Uninstall the Program if You want. - That being said - Install "Norton Utilities", Reboot. - Open up "WinDoctor" under "Norton Utilities" in Your Programs Start Bar. Select "Do all Tests", and then Click "OK". Once the Utility has scanned Your PC, it may return results that You have Errors that are in need of correction on Your System. Highlight the first Error by placing Your cursor on the Error and Clicking It. Select "Advanced" in the Top File Menu Bar of the Utility, and then Select "Repair". This will give You a List of Fixes that "Norton Utilities WinDoctor" has found that can correct the Problem(s) on Your System. Scan through the Fixes, and If You see a Missing entry for an Error, and then the Fix for where the entry should be looking - Select that Fix. If none of the Fixes look like they are the right one ( Make sure that You read them ), You can just Select to Delete the Reg. Entry and recreate it later if necessary. Do this for each and every Error the Utility finds until You have finished with the Errors that "WinDoctor" found. - Reboot. - Once Your PC has Rebooted, Start up "SpeedDisk" under "Norton Utilities" and go into the "Preferences" Options of this Application. In the Preferences of this Utility, Ensure that You have "Verify Writes" Selected, as well as "Surface Scan" Deselected. Select "Save", and the settings will be remembered by the Application next time it is used. Go back to the Main Application Screen of "SpeedDisk" now, and click on "Start". Let the Program Defrag Your HD ( Which will seem to happen at Light Speed w/ "SpeedDisk" - Hence the name of the Application ). Once the Application is finished, It'll pop a Dialog Box at You and ask You to Select "OK" or "Exit". Select "Exit". - Reboot. - Install "GR", Reboot. Start "GR" to see that It works. Shutdown "GR". - Install the Version 1.2.10.0. Patch, or "Desert Seige" for those that have it. Reboot. Start "GR", Enable "DS" and see that It works. Shutdown "GR". - Install the Version 1.3.5.0. Patch, or "Island Thunder" for those that have it. Reboot. Start "GR", Enable "IT" and see that It works. Shutdown "GR". - Install the Version 1.4.0.0. Patch, Reboot. - Run "SpeedDisk" once again to really tighten up Your Hard Drive before trying to run "GR". - Start up "GR", Enable "DS" and "IT" and see that the Full Game works, Patched and All. Then, Shutdown "GR". - Now Drag and Drop each Mod one by one and check for the same thing. IE. Does "GR", "DS" and "IT" work with X, Y, and Z Mod Enabled ? Please repost with Your results, and don't get discouraged. You aren't the only one Who has had troubles running "GR", and I'm sure that You won't be the Last - LOL... Stinger though may have Hit the nail on the Head, and so Lets make sure that It IS those Mods that are the Issue, and NOT "GR" that is causing Your Problems. That being said - We WILL get You Up and Running - Bank on It... Sincerely,
Stinger
The SOTO clan is one of if not the luckiest clans out there. You guys have a guy who will type a gigantically humongous post every single time a problem arrises. And he does it for everybody he can help too. Mac, you're a great man were all lucky to have you here. The whole gr.net community is great with helping others in distress. I would be pressured to find a single person who has not walked away with a resolved issue. I know you guys have helped me many many many times and I thank you all. ARDelta
I am in full agreement with Stinger. Thanks for everything, SOTOMac.
[SOTO] -=VOLT=-
I followed the above steps and it found 37 problems. I repaired or deleated them all and ran the speed disk. I followed the above dirrections and GR will not boot, I continue to get the above error. I ran windoctor again and it found no errors/problems. What do you want me to try next? [SOTO] -=VOLT=-
I uninstalled my video drivers and installed the older version from NOV 2003. It now works with my mods just as it did prior to updating to them and DX9a few weeks ago. Looks great and plays great. Can't wait to play with you guys. Thanks for all the help and support. That program is very good, I'm going to end up buying it. Thanks again and I hope I make the team. Later.
[SOTO] -=VOLT=-
OK, problems again. It wouldn't start again. I think I have it figured out now. As long as nothing stops running, I believe it to be my refresh rate fix. Since it locked my screen to one size at a higher refresh rate, and my GR was at a different resolution, it wouldn't run. I hope that was it cause I got a newer program that dosn't lock anything, but instead it opens up the refresh rate to a higher speed. I hope this is finnally it. I have the newest driver installed once again and it seems to be working, so cross yuor fingers.
