The joys of shermanlevels

Hey guys

here is my problem, I built a small test map and put in 3 shermanheightlevels 1.0,1.5,2.0. i then put in three floors at different levels. I then created shermanlevel1_1.0 and in the map editor gave it a planning level 1.0000 and a room of 1, because the floor was room 1.

then i built the second and put it at 1.5 and did its shermanlevel the same with it shermanlevel1_1.5 and connected with stairs. I had to merge the transitions from the example map becasue mine would not work. i also put in a shermanlevel1_1.25 between the two floors, they are in the same room but on different shermanlevels.

i exported and tested. the AI's will follow me from one level to another and back again. :D

then i built a 3rd room on shermanlevel 2.0 and did the shermanlevel3_2.0, becuase that is room 3. i built a ramp to connect these two rooms and put a portal at the top to join the two rooms. I then built a shermanlevel1_1.5 to join the two rooms, and exported and the AI's follow from one level to the next.

I should note here that i ahd to export about 20 times to get all of this to work. and tried many different combos.

so here is the question---

Why wont the upper room on shermanlevel 2 not show up in IGOR? all the levels are on floor 1 of 1 i was thinking if i could master how to get differnet levels that would make for better maps. Like the tanker in FB, WOW

also? should you have a transition at the bottom of the ramp between _1 and _3? the ramp is grouped in room 1. should the ramp be in a different room.

I have read all the pdfs and the tut by mike about shermanlevels. and pulled apart the example map for hours on end.

i would be happy to email this small file to anyone that could look at it and tell me what i did wrong. I only want to better my map making.

Also has anyone tried the jstools? they don't seem to all work. That or i am not using them right.

If you look in the example map the have

shermanlevelheights1.0,1.5,2.0,3.0

I thought shermanlevels help make the different "floors" in IGOR. the team that put frostbite together have 5 floors on the ship. Maybe one of them could please explain the simple thing i am missing. by the way cool maps.

Do you have a roomlist.txt file in the folder that you exported the map to?

Are all of the rooms and levels defined in this roomlist.txt file?

Did you name your roomlist.txt file anything other than roomlist?

Did you hit enter after the last line in the roomlist.txt file?

Ghost Recon will support as many levels as you want. It is the Command Map in game that only supports 2 levels. Also you only need the shermanlevel bounding boxes surrounding floor polygons if that room has more than one level in it.

JSTools doesn't work with the sherman tagging. I would recommend Squids GR Tools for quick creation of sherman bounding boxes. You will have to clear the properties and reenter them using Squid's tools however.

you were right it was the roomlist file. that i messed up on. thanks for the advice. it is alwasys best when it is the simple mistakes.

another quesition. if you have a room on two shermanlevelhights do you have to put both heights in the roomlist file?

I have looked all over and i can't squids tools. could someone send a link, this would help all the newbies out.

it does cover that in the pdf. i guess you can reread something so many times you don''t see all fo the words any more. kind of like my history text book.

still can't find squids tools. but it is fun to see what comes up when you search for "squids tools" :D
