Greetings,

Has anyone ever run GR on Windows 2000 Profesional?

I am putting together a Dual Athlon Server w/ 2 AMD MP2200 Cpus and 2GB Ram. The system has Win2K Profesional on it and was just wondering what headaches I may run into?

Thanks in advance!

The only thing that I could forsee happening, and I cant say if they will or wont, is this. Multi proc support, and memory leaks with 2 GB of RAM, especially if you are using an Nvidia card, as that was a known issue with Nvidia before. And thats only with 2K Pro. I dont think those issues would exist with a 2K server OS, but with Pro, its conceivable they could happen, as pro wasnt meant to control that kind of power, nor allocate resources the way a server does. Pro was designed for workstations, and corporate home users.

Like I said, I cant say if they will happen or they wont. Merely something to consider if you start having GR issues.

@silent death

I wasnt disputing the fact that it will run on 2K. I know it runs very well on 2K Pro. But 2K pro wasnt designed as a server, and may have issues, particularly with the amount of RAM he is using, when allocating to 3rd party programs like GR.. It is the resource allocation I was mentioning, and a couple known issues was all. He isnt using a standard machine there.

Do you guys have an OS recomendation for putting together a dedicated GR server?

I work in the computer industry but 99.9% Unix so I am not an expert on Windows.

I run MS Winblows at home for my GR addiction. :o=

Id use Winblows XP or Win2K Server.

Also check out www.transgaming.com for a fully directx compatible gaming version of Wine called WineX.

I can run GR in WiNE through SuSE, and as soon as I get some cash, will be purchasing that program and dumping Winblows.

But if you go Winblows, I recommend XP.
