Rocky
I ventured into the darker corners of my storage areas and retrieved some pretty interesting memories and merchandise I had long forgotten about. I'm posting daily updates this month from the anniversary on the 13th right through to the end of the month. Rocky
I found a discussion we had 5 years ago on the 15th GR birthday elsewhere in the forums and I thought I'd share this hilarious video made by Wombat. It's a video recording of a briefing by Alpha Squads member Ice25 to a group of Ghosts about to start a competitive co-op mission. It's hilarious because Wombat took the comms and edited them into ARMA because the ARMA characters can lip synch and had some cool animations. Made me laugh. It was great to hear ICE25's voice again too. I hope those Alpha Squad guys are doing okay, what great times we had playing their custom competitive co-op missions in Ghost Recon. 3
wombat50
Wow, last thing I expected. Alpha Squad was one among several squads great at hosting co-op tournaments. AS definitely played the game the way it was meant to be.
Rocky
Todays #GHOSTRECON20 Anniversary update takes a brief look at the official expansion packs and the unofficial add-ons - Ghost Recon mods! By my count, our Ghost Recon mods database has served well over 5 million downloads, not bad! As part of the anniversary celebrations I will ship out one 64Gb USB packed with all of these mods to a lucky prize draw winner. 22Green
Great times! I still have a piestactics t-shirt I kid you not lol. I was Googling some stuff. Me and my partner in crime used to play faithfully Rainbow 6 / Urban Operations and Rogue Spear on M-player in the 90's. lol and we would host game's all weekend. We killed it. Pointblank and Tactics baby! haha Made advanced strategy and playing guides on 3dretreat and piestactics Good times! 😁
Rocky
Haha I’m so glad you posted this. I can remember chris very well. His site was extremely popular. 3dretreat was Snickers site but run by CR6, another really great guy. I hope those boys are still doing okay.
Rocky
There were some really great GR fansites back then. In addition to 3dretreat, and piestatcics, there was theplatoon, and another mod download site I think was called ghostaholic - I'm not to sure. They went on to support Arma with a site called Armaholic. Did I miss any? That's not to mention all the clansites that were around back then!

wombat50
I definitely remember Ghostaholic and the others mentioned. I remember one more but the name escapes me. There was and still is Woody2000 but presently it is a download site for GR, Splinter Cell and R6 mods. 101459
Wow! All of this makes me feel... Old... I remember not long before they signed off and went full Armaholic, Ghostaholic had a list of 'lost mods' that I was racing to find, and even filled a couple three CDs, that are buried somewhere. I wonder how much work remains lost... What a great page Rocky! What a great game! Anyone heard from ApexMods? I miss that guy's posts...
22Green
A funny edit to one of the files in R6. My buddy put our heads soldiers haha i'm the one on the left. This was taken 20+ years ago. I can't even believe that. Feels like last week. I have a folder called RS_UO_RS with all the patches, add-ons, mods. I can't delete it or part with it lol Weird I know. One of my favorite mods if you will was having that Blue Reticle instead of the default Red. Whoever made that was 👍
wombat50
A video using Arma 2 but using voice comms from a OGR tournament mission put on by Omega Operations. I'm guessing the tournament was 2009 or before. Our team leader at the time was 5 Mike aka snipe21 from Australia. Team members from Denmark, The Netherlands, Australia and the United States. Only one guy was KIA in the mission...me. Possible 100 points...100 points earned.

We did the same thing but with cartoon character heads but I don't remember it coming out hi-res like that in the game.

I’m pretty sure it was but it was only for co-op we couldn’t host with that modification - he was good with that stuff back then it’s funny now that’s my career I am in IT
Burner
Rocky and GR Members, I realized its the 20 year anniversary and dediced to visit. Not sure if this is an appropriate place to put this but we did a tribute to Ghost Recon (2001) using ARMA 3. I cant believe its been 20 years. I remember playing the demo of GR in highschool and it is still the standard for military simulations. Hope all are doing well. 2
Rocky
It's cool that when gamers move onto another title, they are so tied to Ghost Recon, they bring it with them!
wombat50
Enjoyed that Burner and the video quality is very good. I have said that GR graphics have a charm of their own but I'd sure like it if it looked as good as Arma 3.

Im still a big fan of the sounds and the photo-realistic textures. Its hard to describe, the characters in many games look cartoonish. The Ghost Recon characters looked and moved realistically. Same with SWAT 3... they just move, communicate, and look more realistic for some reason. I still need to order a shirt/hoodie with the classic logos or cover art on it.

Rocky
That's awesome Burner, it's the crashed plane mission! I loved sniping the kidnappers through the house upstairs window. there was always one guy left inside that got me at the top of the stairs though! Ruin
It’s really been 20 years? My how time has flown. Thanks to you, Rocky, for keeping the site alive and for making this community what it was to begin with. It impacted many of us more than you realize. Two decades later and I still yearn for another GR. Nothing has been like it since - as a game or a community. 🍺
