Ubisoft now the most hated gaming brand on the planet

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

Well, here in Brazil Ubisoft is in bad shape... and apparently, not only here!

I don't know what marketing people think at the company, but if we take the 3 core franchises of Tom Clancy's series (GR / R6 and Splinter Cell) they just screwed up a lot...and it looks like they STILL DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE COMMUNITY! The reaction of social media today is practically instantaneous, so there's no excuse for not producing something the audience wants/would like to play!

The DELTA project looks like it wasn't "so" good, after all, the community says what they would like to play and they present something like GR Frontline...joke!

Either they understand what their audience wants (especially about the Tom Clancy's franchise) or they're going to be in more trouble.

Ubisoft is a "Woke" company now, has been for some years; they understand what the Clancy franchise audience wants, too well, they just don't care; they are on-board and being munerated handsomely to press the "Woke Agenda" which is part of ESG, and will be penalized for not going with the program.

That means no game can contain any content that may offend anyone for any reason no matter how subjective if it can be litigated; if you think that's a reach this even extends to color palates used in games.

Under ESG, games must primarily embrace and convey themes of "inclusiveness and diversity" -- historic accuracy, realistic depictions of anything that can be felt by anyone, under any circumstances, including extreme psychosis to obviate any of the aforesaid can and will not be tolerated or allowed.

You'll never see another tactical realism game from Ubisoft again, ever -- where tactical realism is described or defined as game design where realistic depiction and use of tactics to achieve realistic military objectives are portrayed. Ubisoft has promised and is committed to "Woke" social justice outcomes at all fronts.

Welcome to the world of Harrison Bergeron...

Well, not withstanding that rant...

Yeah, Ubi's in bad shape.  IMO they're still mid-pack in the hatred race, a distant third behind Activision-Blizzard (2nd) and EA (WAY out in front after Anthem and the "surprise mechanics" argument).  They got a pass because Wildlands was in many ways the successor that OGR deserved, delivered a decade and a half later.  It was imperfect, sure.  It had its problems.  But I gotta tell ya, I loved it.  Breakpoint improved on some parts of that (while tossing some of them aside, and attempting to graft on a sort of Destiny copycat loot system that no one asked for).

It's like watching the decade-and-a-half-ago drama play out all over again, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised to see an indestructible helicopter pop up in Frontline.  Or some nod to Carlos Ontiveros.

Man, I really was not kind to GRAW at all.  I bet Ubi blamed Grin for that relative failure.

There's probably your big issue over in France, man, if I had to point at one thing that needs to change.  Ubi's never going to learn to take responsibility for screwing up the Tom Clancy's games by trying to chase trends (rather than stick to the things that made their games awesome in the first place), and so they're going to keep looking for ways to fit the square pegs (TC's games) into round holes ("I WANT A MOVIE DEAL AND I WANT IT NOW!!" -UbiShaft, probably).

Did that sound dirty?  It did, didn't it?  I'ma put myself in timeout.

Peace!

Yeh Wildlands was/is great.

Most hated, there's a few ahead of Ubi right now, not least Polyphony Digital for destroying GT7 with micro transactions, I mean, do developers live in some kind of blinkered bubble that they do not see what's happened around them already?

I found Iggy just as soon as I hit the submit button.  Good times.

Oh yeah, Gran Turismo 2 was the sole reason I favored Playstation all these years over Xbox.  Not that it matters now, as I have no kidneys to spare in exchange for a next gen console.  Speaking of scummy stuff in-game...

Did anyone here get the awful-looking NFT helmet in Breakpoint?  Like, even if they're not my most-hated video game company out there, UbiSoft is definitely a close second place at worst in the "Most Tone Deaf Publisher or Developer" category.  Let's take a moment to appreciate their idiocy...

- Rainbow Six:  They follow up the sensational success of R6:Siege with that R6:Extraction nonsense.  Who asked for it?  Nobody.  Who thinks it's flaming poo in a paper bag?  Everybody.
- Splinter Cell:  Haven't had a new title since I could still run a few miles without losing feeling in my feet.  (That's a LONG time, BTW.)  Plenty of small tie-ins with GR, but we haven't had a new game with playable 4th Echelon SIGINT ninja in how many years?  Next game is coming, but it's years away yet by any reasonable estimate.
- The Division:  PTS for the new TD2 game mode is mixed-bag, and the constant disconnects are NOT a good look.  Not much hope for the supposedly forthcoming new content.  And Heartland is the one-off BR that nobody asked for.  No TD3 on the horizon, though it's a safe bet it's coming eventually.
- Ghost Recon:  After all the crap that Breakpoint got for screwing up what worked so well in Wildlands, along comes Ubi doubling down with Frontline (another BR, because there aren't enough of those out there yet) and NFTs (No ######ing Thanks).

Not a single PvE campaign coming in the next few years at least.  NOT ONLY do I insist that the Tom Clancy's name ought never be developed by any studio other than RSE, but I now doubt that anyone developing those games under UbiSoft can succeed.  That success would have to come IN SPITE OF the publisher, because Ubi is incapable of identifying what made a game great and capitalizing on it in the next.  They can't.  They won't.

I wonder what MicroProse is up to these days... ;)

To say that I hate ubisoft is to take it too far. Hating a gaming company is stupid. No one seriously hates Ubisoft right?? But that they do not tolerate bad criticism is childishly! There are some little girls in Ubisoft who can not stand to hear that they can not make Ghost Recon. What made Ghost Recon good, was that it was made by boys, for boys. And when women are allowed to decide, Ghost Recon loses its identity completely!

Bit sexist and baseless, but okay.

All of the production managers for the original ghost recon were women.

There was at least one woman in almost every main team in the original Ghost Recon's production

Female characters have been present, no, integral to the game since the very start. In a time where it was very uncommon to include them except as eye candy in low cut belly tops or skin suits for guys to ogle, it was a risky move to include respectfully written and developed women suited up like the guys in such a time, yet they still did it.

There was also no "for boys" restrictions to the game, it was made for anyone who wanted to play it, I, a person who happens to be a woman, played it and modded it religiously and still do. The base of female gamers has increased since 2001 - however this does not forseeably account for why Ghost Recon's gameplay has shifted. Correlation =/= causation.

Furthermore, of the board of directors in Ubisoft, today, March 2nd 2022, there are three women sitting on the board, and 10 men. Only one of those women would have had any steer in Ghost Recon's development, as she was a senior gameplay programmer for Ghost Recon specializing in AI (go figure). However she appears to be a new addition to the board and so far would not have had much in the way of steer for the franchise in recent history.

The other two women, specialise in recruitment and IT operations, the day to day running of the business and ultimately would have had very little impact over the gameplay. Unless you want to say that the increased use of Z-Brush and AMD based computers is also a cause of Ghost Recon's gameplay deteriorating or something.

This fundamentally is not a "woman" issue. To conflate it as such is an exercise in myopia.

This is an issue of Ubisoft fighting off multiple controversies and hostile takehovers from stakeholders (see Vivendi) while also desperately trying to keep up with the increasingly demanding consumer base and complexity of modern systems and as such over the years losing their identity to greed.

It is also, most likely, a simple lack of proximity to Tom Clancy. You know, cause he passed and all. He was a big advisor in the first (and I think second) game. RSE started to have less and influence in GR after GR:AW and the development of narrative and also gameplay was dished out to other studios. This lack of proximity and resultant lack of narrative flare was also more likely a major contributing factor than "person has uterus, person bad"

Wow, you are way off base there with those sexist comments. Maybe you want to reconsider and retract those last three sentences?
