Getting Sabre Teams to work with Steam GR?

Recommended Posts

Using the manual install method it is possible to install the 3 sabre team md folders to a steam installation of Ghost Recon.

However, to select skins and specialists the mod requires the use of exe files, which do not work for steam installs, is there a way to do it manually?

Further explanation of the issue and an image is below...

The mod works in game but its stuck with the standard mod skins. The file Singleplayer_Cfg.exe says it applies but won't change skins in-game, And Specialist_Cfg.exe by trying to pick 12 specialists will give me an error message, Also worth mentioning  is that pressing Singleplayer Regulars/Specialists Configuration in the SabreTeams.exe Wont even open the configuration up i have to use the "exe" i mention above! Lastly trying to launch ST_AddOn_Cfg.exe will also give me an error message.

I have posted pictures on the error messages in this Email. But i think its a problem with the Game Path not being the standard disc version path, If only i could change it to the steam path i think it could work but still might be impossible

Hello everyone that reads this and might have encountered the same problem! First i would like to say that it was me who wrote to rocky and asked for help because i Could not get this mod to work properly with the steam version of ghost recon.

However i am very happy to announce that i was able to solve the problem myself and i will now share the solution and how i found the problem.

I was sure it had to be some problem with the differences of the original game path and the steam game path, But i was unsure on how to fix it! Then when i installed War of Infamy from the mod collection usb i saw there was a "readme" file named Steam Users on how to correct the path so the WarOfInfamy.exe (faction/skin changer) would work properly. I followed the simple instructions and was able to get war of infamy working perfectly! Then i thought what if this was the solution to get Sabre Teams skin changer/specialist.exe to work aswell. And to my suprise this was the solution!

Solution: 1. Open the Start Menu down to the left and Search for "regedit" (without " ") and open regedit.exe

              2. Go to the ghost recon Path Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\GhostRecon.exe

              3. Edit the subkey: Path and Change the value to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ghost Recon    Or where you have your path installed.

              4. You are done its that simple now you wont get any error message! you will get a correct picture on the specialist so you know how they look before you pick.

Worth mentioning my path was set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ghost Recon\Mods But had to remove the last bit ( \Mods ) in order for it to work!

Now i can finally play with 60 different skins and hand pick my teams for every mission! So satisfying figuring this out all thanks to that Readme file in war of infamy :D I hope this helps anyone that had the same problem!

That's GREAT!

I'm so glad you managed to figure it out because I know you were desperate to get Sabre teams fully working.

I'm going to add your solution to the MOD USB so others can benefit from your solution - great detective work!

I have added the following txt file to the Mod Collection on USB.

Sabre Teams makes use of exe files to install the mod to your Ghost Recon game. This was fantastic back when it was released, it was a super fast and efficient way of using Sabre Teams.

Now though most people play Ghost Recon through their Steam Library, which causes a small probelm for the Sabre Teams Launchers.

There is a quick and simple fix for Windows users however, thanks to Ghost Recon fan Ibex3050 on the GhosRecon.net Forums. Follow his instructions below to enjoy all of the great Sabre Teams content.

Solution:

1. Open Windows Start Menu down to the left and Search for "regedit" (without " ") and open regedit.exe

(Worth mentioning my path was set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ghost Recon\Mods But had to remove the last bit ( \Mods ) in order for it to work!)
