RichardG
i was playing firefight coop with a few friends on game ranger recently and it just started to bug me that the AI just stand around or casually walk around till they happen to spot a player and try and shoot them. i thought to myself; if i was charged to guard an area as these enemy AI are supposed to be, i would not be casually walking around waiting for someone to shoot me like an idiot. i would find some cover near by, make it look like the place is unguarded and cap anyone who strolled in, due to the fact they didn't see me and thought it was clear. but how would i get the AI to behave this way? then i remembered the times i threw a grenade at an enemy and they all scatter for the nearest cover and turn to face me. this is exactly what i want them to do!!!!, find a good spot to hide and ambush me!!!!. so i fired up IGOR and imported a firefight script and tried to find a way to make all the AI do this after they spawn in random locations. the closest thing i could find is the command "panic company" unfortunately during testing it seems to have the effect of making all enemies put there hands up and surrender, which i think is not the intended function. i need some help to figure out what I'm doing wrong, cause isn't it supposed to make them run for cover? another idea would be to set all actors to invincible then make it rain hand grenades all over the map, then undo the invincible. but i have no idea how to do that. please help me out, a mod like this would be awesome to play. also if i extend the distance they engage enemies at and panic them in a defend mission, it would cause them to sneak up on the base instead of sprint toward it like a headless chicken, like real players!!! wombat50
Check out Mission HX by Harntrox for gametypes that make the AI behave in a more unexpected way. I can't remember the mod they are in but didn't Harntrox make some other gametypes such as assault_hx, recon_hx, firefight_hx, defend_hx? The "panic company" command is what you are seeing. They drop weapons and raise their hands. I think in creating "missions" you can give the AI more commands and make the AI behavior more elaborate then you can in a "gametype". I have made a few missions and it is time consuming but a good mission is very satisfying to make or play. RichardG
thanks for telling me about Harntrox's work, I'll definitely check it out, however i would still like to tinker with my original idea of making the AI take cover like they do when a grenade is thrown at them. its a simple and yet game changing edit that would make things a little bit more interesting. i imagine in Harntrox's work the AI still walk around waiting for you to engage them. all I'm after is a way to make them hide so that it doesn't turn into a game of "shoot the moving/ stationary targets from across the map" i want to find them, hunt them, get shot when I'm not moving behind cover, stuff like that. all possible with this simple change, i think.
pagey
Wombat, the gametypes your talking about are in (of course) HX5 mod. The usage of their secondary weapons in MHX is (i find) much higher than in other mods. Ive been blown hundred times by them, funny stuff. I wont have internet for 3 more weeks so i've been playin SP in the last 2 months, few missions but mostly ''Return 3 POW'' gametype from HX5 gametype, MHX and couple more mods... The hosties on map are placed randomly so you basiccly never play the same thing twice...thats what i like a lot about Harntrox stuff, the randomness in all aspects of GR. EDIT: The randomness always gives unexpectably behaviors from enemies, its my favorite aspect of GR (modding)..:p Edited January 5, 2017 by pagey

Hi Richard... If that could help; in MHX, when all of the OBJ are completes, a random extraction zone is generated. As soon as it appears on your map, the enemies will charge it; very realistic; ive never seen it that way in any mods...Try iy youll see what i mean..:) MHX is only 2mbs btw. Love your work...goodluck!
wombat50
Thanks Pagey, I had forgotten about HX5. Good to hear you are getting internet soon. Harntrox gametypes are complex and have allot of scripting blocks. Some of the scripting effects the draw distance and fog settings which occasionally can be a pain as in they can see you before you see them. But this is not 100% of the time. I wish I knew why he scripted in these map settings.
Burner
Very interesting....amazing that randomness was able to be achieved in OGR. I notived the lone AI (much like in ARMA) do not perform realsiticlly. The squad tactics in GR, although scripted seem much much more realsitic. Thanks for the MHX suggestion, I certainly check it out.
Burner
Wow, they definitely take cover almost all the time Amazing this mod enhances the AI dramatically. They are a bit aggressive however.
