Zeealex
So recently, for some unknown reason other than just wanting one... I bought a PASGT. it was £45, and I was not going to turn down a genuine issue Kevlar PASGT for £45I've decided to start a halloween project, get a TLBV, an OTV and BDU's complete with the older fashioned (and better) design 5th Special forces, 1st Btn, D co arm patch so I can literally be a ghost next halloween. if anyone has any of the above and is looking to sell, I'd be interested over the next coming months.
wombat50
When they first came out the PASGT reminded me of a WW2 German helmet. It'll be a fine Halloween costume when you get all the pieces together.I'm reading a WW2 trilogy by Rick Atkinson at the moment. He always refers to the German headgear as coal scuttle helmets.I finally had to look up exactly what a coal scuttle looks like.
Zeealex
They do look a lot like the M42 Stahlhelm, in fact I think their design was inspired by such a helmet the stahlhelm was pretty good as an all around helmet. I'll get photos when it's all constructed, I might have to go unarmed or with a bright orange gun though, UK gun laws suck XD haha oh god they do look like scuttle helmets too! I remember putting one on my head when I was 5 pretending to be a horseman on parade for the queen XD
Hammer
The PASGT helmet was also known by its wearers as the "Fritz" helmet for its resemblance to the Stahlhelm
TJbrena
Can you legally own an OTV in the UK? You may want to look into it if you haven't already, because it may be that you can own a plate carrier but not the protective inserts, you can own both, or you can own neither. Zeealex
yep, you can legally purchase and own any grade of body armour and any grade of Kevlar helmet in the UK, it's not restricted at all here, which is awesome. You can buy OTV's with Kevlar for £130 and it comes with its original carry bag too. even if it was restricted you can buy the cover and dummy plates made from plastic that protect against BBs and paintballs, and keep the armour's shape. Zeealex
got some more fundamental pieces of kit recently the most fundamental being the classic Ghost Recon patch, which is ridiculously hard to come by. what's new is the NVG shroud and rhino mount, TLBV, and the all important patch, the boots i've had for a while, they're magnum elite II's and they cost more than all of that other gear put together!the TLBV is a genuine issue surplus TLBV as per the idea when i started this that EVERYTHING will be genuine issue surplus or at least close enough to it, to enhance authenticity, no cheap made in china knock offs.realistically I only need a few more things:a webbing beltthat ridiculous butt bagBDU'sCombat gogglesNomex flight gloves (i can probably substitue with my oakley SI assault gloves)in the game's case image, the ghosts don't wear IOTV's just TLBV's so i could probably get away with not needing one.
Zeealex
So over the past 8 months I've been doing research, asking questions and looking more closely at the PASGT I now affectionately call my baby. I now know:It's airborne configuredIt has adhesive marks reminiscent of that of Chalk number tabsIt was made by Native Americans in North Dakota It's 11 years older than me (manufactured in 1985) from the two first points it was most likely a jump school helmet, however its cover and some marks and stains indicate it may have seen action or at least some degree of roughing up. The one thing i definitely do know though, is although it was a spur of the moment purchase, I'm glad i did buy it, I can't see myself ever parting with it now. oh, and meet 2nd Fruitenant Melon

101459
You! are a fun & funky young lady! Not many women (young or old) are interested in or attracted to shooters, no less realism, no less serious tactical realism games. How did you end up here young lady? Zeealex
haha, thanks, I started young I guess? been a tomboy for as long as I can remember, ripped heads off barbie dolls, wanted toy guns and swords instead. as for getting into tactical realism shooters, I blame dad, he left ghost recon running on the PC when I was a wee little one, I, being the little rebel I am, played on it while he was out, and from there I was hooked these days I just like games that engage the brain, whether that's RTS games or tactical shooters and sandbox milsims.
