Back To Its Roots??

Recommended Posts

Okay guys, I get theres a lot of hate and hostility towards the latest GRFS title. Apparently a lot of you guys didn't like the change from Graw and previous versions. I played all titles for Xbox, and I enjoyed everyone of them.

This whole back to its roots don't sit well with me and I guess that's just cause I've enjoyed playing GRFS for 3.5 years now and still play it today with a lot of regulars still running it.

What is the deal with GRFS? PLEASE DONT SAY CONNECTION that was established at Beta and I play 4-5 hours a night and yeah theres some lag and it host migrates and usually cleans up to a playable/acceptable speed. Some nights its virtually unplayable agreed completely.

Controls, is it the way you move and cover swap? I would have to say if you didn't play it long enough yeah it sucked at first cause it was a pain in the ass to learn the distances from walls you need to be at and where to hold A or not. But you can't argue the Mechanics are sound. The whole added in or (not intended) speed bursting and entering and cancelling motion only added to the skill gap if you spend time practicing those moved in a CQC 1v1 is unbelievable what can be achieved and the motions you can to and cover swapping where you wind up behind people while they are scoped in looking where you use to be.

If you have nothing other than I HATE GRFS please don't post I would just like to see why everybody on here is so stuck on Graw 1-2 that they couldn't move past that and support GRFS. Just about every game that's not running on a Dedicated server is going to be similar and have lag issues and connection issues.

Just wondering for my own personal reasons. Not instigating an argument everyones entitiled to there own opinions of any and every game they've bought and played.

I'm going to talk about this from a PC and Xbox 360 perspective, as I owned it on both systems.

For me the biggest problem with GRFS was the lack of modding capability, as a modder for GR, GRAW and the Arma series, making a game my own 'flavour' if you will is as important to me as the game itself being good. I personally feel modding contributes to the replay factor of these games as much as any feature, most of the multiplayer features in arma are built onto mods, 'Life' servers for instance use several mods and addons. some multiplayer game modes themselves are in fact made by the community. With all of the PC versions of the ghost recon games, there was SOME modding capability, with GRFS this was completely absent.

This is why games with the likes of GR1 GRAW, and GRAW 2 are perhaps more favourable to some than GRFS.

The bigger difference as well is also that we all here, as most of us are hardcore fans of the GR franchise, we wanted a first person shooter without the flashy stuff. instead we got an OTS WITH all of the flashy stuff.

Thirdly, the release of the game wasn't perfect, not on PC anyway, the release was plagued with bugs, for a good few weeks it was all but unplayable on some systems, that again, devalued the game, and even today on a decent spec rig, I'm lucky if I can get a stable framerate above 20fps.

On the 360 I saw a few bugs, connectivity was a big issue, if I wasn't completely disconnected from the session, it lagged out, it was very rare that I had a decent game. and on the topic of a decent game, a decent team was hard to come by, a lot of them were a little challenged as to what it was you're meant to be doing, and the team based elements of the multiplayer, while a good idea made life very difficult if people didn't pull their weight.

coming from GRAW2 on the 360 as well there were a lot more co-op game opportunities than PVP, I'm primarily a co-op kind of woman, I prefer working with people to achieve a goal than constantly shooting at people, the 'hunt' game modes were very tense and suspenseful, and required a lot of team play just to complete.
Guerilla mode, while yeah it was really cool, it was virtually the only co-op game mode available that wasn't the campaign, and it was essentially just a sit and shoot mode. with no real planning needed.

GRAW 2 also had no levelling system, it's something that really annoys me with games is the levelling system is something developers feel they need to implement, in real gameplay it adds nothing but imbalance to the game and is constantly pulverising new players, who soon stop playing, with GRAW and previous games, this was absent, you could play with whatever equipment you wanted. And utilize whatever you had, it was a lot more balanced as a result.

all in all, i suppose to us hardcore fans, GRFS just felt like the red headed stepchild of the series, there was very little, even in the campaign to get excited about, and I suppose the sheer disappointment of the game itself was enough to cause people to lose hope and switch back to GRAW and previous titles.

I assume you are posting about the Xbox version here.

Please post in the correct forum, I don't see any reference to GR-Wildlands in your post so it doesn't belong in that forum so I moved it here.

Well this post was intended for people keep saying Please don't make wildlands anything like GRFS, I referenced FS because everybody on this Forum just about everybody seems to have a huge bone to pick with FS. Honestly everyone just states its too different or it was to glitch/connection issues.

So it really was intended for all the guys talking about Wildlands. Not FS, that's why I posted it in the Wildlands conversation, and hence why I titled it the way I did.

Okay your referring to Modding as in Match Making not being able to take out Noob Tubes, Backscatters, ect....I get that and as nice as it would be and as frustrated as I do get at times with teams that run there tube first then shoot, its still a very Realistic Weapon and theres tons of Live Military action Videos on YouTube that back that theory or a grenade launcher to blow somebody out of there cover and either killing them instantly or allowing a instant invasion following the explosion. But I agree they should've made it to where you could host your games and take such weapons out. My simplest answer to that is this...   If you are a competitive player which you sound to me like you are, why wouldn't you just make it to where when running custom matches or even Squad matches as we do currently and at the beginning of the session tell everyone to take them off. It doesn't always work with some ass holes out there but the real game competitors will abide by that rule simply because they probably feel the same way.

You wanted a First Person shooter? I like the Hybrid more like GRFS. Once again making an assumption here correct me if I'm wrong you don't like 3rd person shooters because you can see around walls without poking your heads up right? Okay I see that point for sure and it probably should be more limited but if you stop and think about it go to a wall in your house that allows you to look down a hall way or a bedroom door way and tell me you cant peak in with a narrow view/sight line and make out if somebody's in that room or hallway without standing in the middle of the door way or hallway? However all that aside the simplest is this, if they can do it so can you, and you know those Noob Tubes everyone carries even in Graw 1-2 simplest way to clear a door way or opening you think there might be somebody behind??? hmmmm you feeling me TUBE lol Just sayin I get the aggravation and any quality player is going to see more downside to wall walking in place maybe for holding a position or something of that sort which you would do in reality anyways so no longer a true argument.

OH HELL yes the CO-OP has to be present in Wildlands it has to be. I too saw very little point in the PVP as the mechanics lacked a lot in my opinion for a competitive PVP the slow swaying of the gun when you went to turn fast and hard at an enemy to your right or left. Had my sensitivity up all the way in most cases in all Ghost Recons previous to FS. And I too was PISSSSSSED when I bought that game and had no Co-Op I was so upset for a while about that and still am that's a major part of what I loved about Ghost Recon Series running 12-16 deep and attacking that Bunker Hill damn that was a blast. The friends you could make on that style of game play was amazing!!! Nothin Womanly about Co-Op its been widely missed even by the FS players trust me on that one I still love to flip over to Graw 2 and run a game or two on The Cut. Awesome Map lay outs stupid AI but what a blast.

Yeah I guess I married that Red-Headed step child being that I absolutely love playing GRFS, if you have a 360 which it sounds like you do id love for you to come run with us on GRFS and see the other side of FS. We have a pretty large group of 10-20 players on every night usually everyone tries to run Friday nights and Saturday nights but I'm usually on after 8:00 Central all week long. I do bounce over to MGO with a few guys from the Crew from time to time but I still always find my way back home to GRFS.

Hey, hey, Johns a nice guy, he's also right, this is more a FS based discussion than a wildlands one, you want our opinions on why we dislike GRFS, no?

anyway, does it really matter? people will give their opinions either way :)

Oh no I wasn't trying to have any kinda of tone in that comment lol trust me I'm not that type of person...Don't think I know John other than just seeing him on here. Like I said it was mearly for those people saying Wildlands needs to stay as far away from GRFS as possible and I'm hoping they keep a lot of the play style in Wildlands from FS. Always being the odd man out on here makes defending my All-Time Favorite game very difficult and probably makes my comments come across wrong or a little too harsh but they are not intended to be. Purely Forum talk and sorry I just don't get ###### off about "Games" which is what they are right? wait its not real?

I was talking about modding as in, making extra content for the game, par example for arma 3 I was able to add female characters that weren't there before:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=26169
Modding enables the game to be your own in a sense, if something's missing, you can add it in yourself if you have the experience.

I love OTS shooters normally, provided the controls aren't a mess (looking at you, gears of war!) but Ghost recon was always better as a first person shooter to me, it just felt better.

I mean, if you like playing it, then like playing it by all means, we aren't going to make you feel like an outcast for liking it, we're not that kind of community here. I enjoyed playing it on the 360 as much as the next person, I still have a blast with my friend on Guerilla on his console, but having played the Ghost Recon series for at least 12 years, (god I feel old) there was just something lacking in GRFS' gameplay that was there in my childhood memories, I have a feeling it was probably the Strela :P (another story, another time)

I used to have a 360, I'm contemplating purchasing another over christmas as they're quite cheap, I sold my prized console to a so called friend and it was later found on ebay with the same burn marks from the iron. I have a PS4 now, in anticipation of Wildlands.

I think I may have ran with one of the HVT gang at some point, i'm not too sure.

All we really ask is that you appreciate that some of us here still mod the first ever game, and there's still quite a big community around that game, and we've seen the franchise slowly degenerate into something GR never was. and we're hoping wildlands is a more closer representation of the original game.

Oh yeah I don't ever mean disgrace any of the Previous titles, I have so many memories as well playing ever one of them along the way from the Original Xbox never played them on the Computer. Console only kinda guy really. And ya I had no idea what you meant by modding I was like dang shes just willy nilly with the cheating stuff.....kidding only of course....lol

Yeah you very well could've ran into some of the HVT guys and girls there use to be a fairly large group of us...hopefully Wildlands brings everyone back in.

Never owned any of the PS stuff, controller makes me feel like a baby trying to use a fork its just not gonna happen and its gonna end badly in most cases for that fork....ha

Well Mattshotcha, AI BlueFox, ITK5, are all a part of our Ghost Team Matt has been more PC I believe until hes ready to have some real fun and drink some beer and game all weee hours of the night. haha, terminology tip, modding at GR.net normally refers to creation of addon content, not cheating XD

consoles are fine, I'm an all around gamer, I've played on pretty much every console since 1996 and I only had preference to the PC because it was something I worked at anyway. Playstation is an acquired taste, it can take a while to learn how to master the controller, but once it's mastered it's a very comfortable piece of kit.

but yeah, HVT rings a bell for sure.

My biggest "gripe" with FS as a console gamer is this:

The maps were too small..

Firefight mode was missing..

Everything else about the movement and animation of the FS game is leaps and bounds better than the MP portion of the Graw console games (which was just regurgitating the gameplay from ghost recon 2)... Even the campaign was better.. Graw console campaigns are very stiff and have not aged well at all (well graphically its solid)

Thats why I was hoping for a FS follow up...something that would address the issues i did have... The potential of Wildlands is greater than what a FS2 could have been though....

Just wondering why you would copy/repost Zeealex's post without adding to it? plus this thread is over 4 years old :)
