Hey Ubisoft, this is how you launch a game

Recommended Posts

A kickstarter, MMO, massively complex multiplayer launch, hardly an issue to be heard of.

Even more exciting for gamers, after all the stress and troubles of taking a game to launch from a KS, just listen how much energy Braben still has for the next development phase of the game!

All this and Ubisoft could not launch a Tetris game without FPS issues, and more....!!!

Anyway, awesome job by Braben and a fantastic space game, Elite Dangerous rocks.

Well, Ubisoft has nothing good to offer anyway, they're just millions of lightyears away from what Valve is doing.

Ubisoft massively overhyped Watchdogs and AC:Unity + AC:Rogue is like, noone has ever heard of this game, yet its released, The Division is probably their last choice of having something good to release.

Sorry for hijacking, but THIS is how you launch a game...

By now, Chris Roberts' game "Star Citizen" has surpassed $67 million in crowdfunding, with an average donation of close to $100 each, from about 700,000 people. It is the highest crowdfunded project of any kind, ever, anywhere.

Not too shabby for the "dead" PC platform and the "dead" space sim genre, and a remarkable testament to how "well" those marketing "experts" in the gaming industry (i.e. the ones Ubisoft listens to) "know" their audience.

the one problem I find with Star Citizen currently (stressing currently) is the lack of mid-range options, Elite dangerous runs on fairly good spec, and it looks pretty amazing too. Admittedly star citizen has lots of other different features, and graphically it's impressive, it's not *just* a dogfighting game, but it needs to be optimized so that you don't need a top of the range PC to get the thing to not run like crap.
Like I said, while the graphics and simulation are superb, not everyone can afford £600-700 on a PC just to play it smoothly. my PC supposedly can't even run it, and while it's only a mid range thing, it can run every game I throw at it pretty well.

to me, star citizen seems like its going to be that "bragging rights" kind of game as much as it is a space sim, where elitist PC gamers can boost their egos up even more by saying they can run it on high settings (no offence to anyone here) and it's precisely the sort of thing (the attitude I mean) that is the downfall of PC gaming as a whole. this whole "PC master race" crap, is it any wonder the console gaming populace take a general dislike to PC gamers?

back on to elite dangerous' release, that sure is how you release a game, if an indie dev can get a game like THAT running smoothly, then I don't see how Ubisoft, a long standing triple A developer can even up the release of a tetris game!
one of these days, it'll come back and bit them on the cheeks... really hard.

I'll be picking up elite:dangerous when I have the money next, I need that kind of a game in my life, in the meantime, still boycotting Ubisoft until they get their acts together ;)
