NYR_32 6
Recently when I go to fire up my computer it boots up fine then when it hits the desktop and these weird dancing lines appear and then the monitor shuts off. I have to reboot once or twice before it stops and Im able to use the computer, its happened a whole bunch in the last few days. Anyone else ever have this happen. Specter 0
How old is your monitor, bro? And what refresh rate and resloution are you running Windows in? Edited June 12, 2003 by phantom110565
NYR_32 6
The monitors about 3 years old, I'm running the screen resolution at 1024x768 and 85hz refresh rate.
Crimson 0
Could be the video card drivers. Have you updated lately? Also, run your virus scanner just to be safe.
NYR_32 6
I've been running the same drivers for a while and this issue has only happened starting hmmmm... about last week. I can't check for virus' because I don't have a virus scan installed yet... I was planning on going to the store this weekend to get one.
swartsz 7
you could always do a online scan for virusses
Crimson 0
you could always do a online scan for virusses And hope that it finds it. I suggest Norton 2003 AV. I also suggest to try upgrading your video card drivers. (ATi, and nVidia.)
NYR_32 6
My video cards driver are the most up to date the Nvidia 44.03's. I'm thinking maybe my monitor may be going or that I'm pushing the refresh rate to high.
Crimson 0
Im using a CRT moniter now that Ive had for 2.5 years. Try lowing your refresh rate.
Rocky 1,224
Think hard about what you have changed recently, just before the issue started - a few moments deep thought could reveal the answer Moved anything near the monitor, or moved the monitor? Installed any new software? Invoked a system restore? Good luck
Specter 0
I would look real seriously at the monitor bro, and also, has it started making any faint noises? The occassional whine?sounds like maybe your electron gun is going out like maybe the motor is poopin out on ya.
NYR_32 6
I was afraid it was either my graphics card going kaboom.... with that though I stil have a replacement warranty.... or my monitor thank goodness for graduation money cause if its that at least I can afford a new one lol. Specter 0
Do you have another card, even an old PCI card that you can stick in for a bit and see if thats it?
NYR_32 6
Yeah I do have another video card... the thing is its not like this happens all the time, I've been using the machine for awhile toady and it only happened at start up no time else.
Crimson 0
Am I the only one thinking virus?
Specter 0
Is your current video card one that has a plug for power that you plug into the mobo?
NYR_32 6
The Ti4200 doesn't need to have an extra cable to provide power. Edited June 13, 2003 by NYR_32
Dark Ranger 0
Honestly, I'd be really surprised if it was that Ti4200. And I doubt it is a virus. Here's my suggestions, do what you want with 'em: - I'd try to get a hold of a different monitor for testing purposes. Connect it to the video card before ya boot up in the morning. See what happens. - Try rerouting your monitor signal cable, just in case it is picking up EMF interference from the AC cables. - Have you tried reverting to the 43.45 or 41.09? Just for kicks. - Try reverting back to AGP 4X in the BIOS.

Try rerouting your monitor signal cable, just in case it is picking up EMF interference from the AC cables. Originally when this problem started I reminded me of the time that I got a call on my cell phone while I was sitting at the computer..... the same weird lines showed up on the screen.... when I hung up the phone the lines and stuff went bye bye.... gotta give rerouting the wires a shot. Try reverting back to AGP 4X in the BIOS. My mobo only supports 4x AGP anyway lol, I just got the 8x card cause it was on sale and cheaper than a 4x card go figure. Specter 0
I wasnt thinking card with that post, but maybe power supply. What wattage power supply do you have? That is also a possibility, especilly with AGP.

NYR_32 6
I have a 350 watt PSU( Antec Smart Power), during the past few months I haven't had a problem, not random reboots, no cold boot problems etc.
