Newbhero
Hey everyone. I used to play desert siege with the tropic thunder addon and hundreds of map mods. It was fun and to this day has advantges that even modern game dont have, including the ability to open doors, tactical team based play, and gigantic maps. The problem is that about 3-4 years ago, the servers started being empty so i stopped playing and moved onto modern warfare 2, then black ops 1 and 2, and Battlefield 3. I miss playing a game that was tactical and team based, and where doors can be opened and closed but noticed that the new Ghost Recon looked rather on the ######ty side. 3rd person? Invisiblity cloaks? NO MODS???? I guess the game designers had never actually played a Ghost Recon game before. With that said, what is the best option out there? Arma 3? Or are there any modern GR games that have the qualities of Desert Siege? Edited July 7, 2013 by Newbhero
wombat50
I'd recommend Arma 3. I think it can be configured or modded in many ways to suit your needs. I never found the sweetspot myself. The guys I play GR with never took to the Arma series. If you can find like minded gamers, the Arma series would be fantastic.
Zeealex
Arma 2 or 3 hands down, it will be hard at first only because of the fact that you are used to CoD/Battlefield now, but it's moddable, and if you stick at it, it's VERY rewarding. RileyFletcher_01
Get ArmA2 Combined Operations and you're set. ArmA3 looks a bit arcade-ish to me, at least compared to the previous games in the series.Oh and join my team once you get ArmA
Zeealex
agreed, I played the lite alpha of ArmA 3 it was way too easy compared to the others and arcade-ish, and the OPFOR look ridiculous. but I'll get it anyway XD
mrcash2009
Yep, If you want anything close to what you liked from OGR then grab Arma2 Combined Ops which at this stage has tonnes of mods incl Ghost Recon style mods and missions, lots of new maps/kit/weapons ... everything. And as mentioned try out Arma3 under beta to get a flavor of the new beast to arrive. Arma is a pure sandbox and you can make whatever you want on it and can be modded to death
lexsis
I miss the old days, can we please go back to say......summer 2002?
squad_e
Ah, nothing beats ArmA 2 though, Some features in arma 3 were a bit dissapointing tho, but i know and can trust bohemia interactive that they are always hard working and no doubt they have a Superior Modding community as their back up and street rep. Patience has always been a virtue with All Arma Series. I was socked how big my ArmA CD case pile was compared to most of my games. Although I am a Big Battlefield 2 Junkie as well, But no one seems to play Battlefield 2 anymore, same with BF2 Bad Company and BF2142. A Matter of time that Mods will show in GR FS. Its still in its baby days.
