Pave Low
more embarrassment for poor Microsoft as despite saying that the games they were showing off on stage and E3 booths were "running on comparable dev kit specs to the actual home consoles" and also to EA who said BF4 was "was running on specs, on the Xbox One" They were actually running on Windows PC's ...... and Windows 7 at that (what no "flagship" Windows 8 ) and surprisingly PC's with Nvidia GTX Cards (this is worth pointing out as the XBone is supposed to be using an AMD GPU) Read the article over at cinemablend here (But the PS4 titles shown were actually on PS4 Dev Hardware)
Rocky
Oh boy, can it get any worse for Microsoft?
Zeealex
oh my god that's hilarious! they have lost it! i preferred it when it broke all the time! Edited June 16, 2013 by Zeealex
Blame
After all of that development, E3 just completely makes them fail at everything they've made.
Zeealex
yep! I don't know what is more disturbing, the fact that it wasn't an Xbox One or the fact that it was running Windows 7. Goes a long way in proving that Microsoft don't have faith in their products.
Oelmuvun
Not only Windows 7 and Nvidia GPU, but if you look at the metal bracket holding down that Corsair Hydro H60/H80i/H100i it looks very much like an Intel socket! (this is only notable because the xbone is supposed to be using an AMD CPU as well as an AMD GPU) Intel's mounting holes on their LGA sockets are generally arranged in a square while for quite some time now AMD's AM sockets have been using a rectangular pattern. What, AMD CPUs are too slow for you Microsoft? Probably run too hot for that cabinet as well. hahaha. On a different note, it is really too bad that MS has gone out of their way to do absolutely everything wrong. I think I dislike Sony more than I dislike Microsoft but MS are trying to make me like Sony again and I do not appreciate that. BRB, sticking to my PC this next gen. Evilducky
good that hopefully means that the games shown will be for pc as well.
MeanMF
This is not unusual. Pretty much all games are designed and built on high-end PCs, and it takes some time to get things optimized for and working properly on console hardware. It doesn't mean that they don't have faith in the hardware or that they're trying to hide anything. It just means that they haven't finished that work yet. Pave Low
This is not unusual. Pretty much all games are designed and built on high-end PCs, and it takes some time to get things optimized for and working properly on console hardware. It doesn't mean that they don't have faith in the hardware or that they're trying to hide anything. It just means that they haven't finished that work yet. Did you read both of the articles in the first post, as the key point is "on comparable dev kit specs to the actual home consoles" XBone spec is Windows 8 - E3 was on Windows 7 XBone spec is a modified AMD GPU - E3 was on Nvidea GTX XBone spec is an AMD CPU - as Oelmuvan pointed out the rig at E3 appears to be Intel Yes, a lot of work is done on PC, But the point was that at E3 it wasn't even on comparable dev kit specs and then they went ahead and said on the record that it was and at 5 months prior to release the expectation is that they should have been be a lot further forward. (The PS4 was, and is actually running on Dev Kit hardware) Here is a key quote from the second article linked in OP: Just to clarify this for people who aren't entirely tech savvy: Development kits are basically a set of programming and design tools to help developers make a game run for the designated platform. It contains instruction sets and code so that developers have an idea of how to fine-tune and optimize the game for the console's hardware. Usually early development kits, shortened to dev kits, have slightly higher or similar specs to the final hardware. Now, the reason there's a lot of controversy over the news about theXbox One games running on high-end PCs with a Windows 7 OS is because first of all, the Xbox One's core OS is based on Windows 8 and second of all, the CPU/GPU APU combination for the final hardware set is being provided by AMD,[~] The hardware at E3 were running high-end Nvidia GPUs. A bit of a far-cry from actual dev kits given that the instruction sets would be all wrong for optimizing a game for hardware that won't even be present in a retail SKU. and these quotes from Devs at E3 We worked very hard to get our game running on the actual PS4 hardware and operating system in time for the show. As did many other devs. During Microsoft’s press show I was impressed by how good the games looked given the console’s specs. But if they weren’t running on those specs then it becomes pretty questionable.
Blame
Might not be the same, but its close to the fail of Xbox one.
twcrash
I just built a AMD A10 5800K based system. Great system for under 400.00 bucks. There is no comparison (even the I5 can't keep up) PS4 will be awesome. My PS3 already is so I am sticking with Sony. Microsoft has screwed me more than once over the years so i'll stick with what I like.
