Doc. Caliban
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I didn't find it with an, admittedly quick, serach of the forums. This has always been the case for me when playing coop: Sometimes some of the players can see hidden actors or vehicles before they spawn. They show up as perfectly black, and shooting one results in a server CTD. I have almost never seen these, but my buddies playing on my server do all of the time. Sometimes only one of them can see something, and other times they all can. It really "removes the fourth wall" by tipping the players off to impending happenings in the game. It's also a real let down when you've spent time scripting a surprise response in a mission and one of your players says, "I see a ghost truck with a bunch of ghost dudes standing around it ... I guess we need to watch out for them later." Why does this happen? Would running a dedicated server prevent it? (I always just host right in the game.) -Doc
RileyFletcher_01
There is nothing that can be done. It will always happen when playing online. Keep them out of the way and keep them invincible until they are spawned; that will keep the crashes from happening. can'tmake vehicles invincible unfortunately
Doc. Caliban
I've seen tricks with placing unspawned actors inside of "rocks" and so forth. Can I do that with a vehicle as well? If so, can they spawn in place and walk / drive into the real world, or do they have to be telported into the real world first? Thanks! -Doc
Tinker
The default maps are tough to work with. In Igor at the top, you can select view/debug/floors. Here you should see dark blue area that things can be placed on. some maps have no where to hide anyone. Basic is placing actors, vehicles at the other side of the map, if player platoon is within distance, send them somewhere else. But a lot of maps do have off the map areas you can store these things, and teleport them in when needed. Shot below is a mission I made using H-Hours Airport map. Here you can see he created 3 areas/rooms well away from the map, that there is no possible way to see or hit whatever is in there. Store all your stuff needed in these areas, and tele when needed. Actors should always be set to invincible then invisible, or hide, this will always prevent crashing. But as stated, vehicles do not have invincible, and they have to be out of player sight, when hidden. Or crash if a player fire rocket at it as a shadow. Basic of this map. If you happen to move within such a proximity of the airport, it will will show a platoon and set all the teams off, plus activate tanks. Funny we crashed the other day playing the default Caves map in coop for this. Not sure why that was never fixed. Some guys saw nothing, others black shadows, others fully textured characters. But set to invincible and then invisible, plus hide in the script is best. If you send a actor or a vehicle into non blue land it works, but if you hit quick save/ quick start it will crash. Doc. Caliban
Great info, thank you! I have never done any mission editing with GR EVER, other than occasionally figuring out what I need to in order to disable or change some small factor. Lately I've been 'dabbling' but not in a formal learning manner. I will go through the Igor guides now that I've spent several hours in the editor. Thanks again! -Doc
