I am trying to find out what the factory setting "tune" is to tune my guitar to drop D tuning, for the modern metal style playing, all i know so far is that it is the high E and A string that needs to be tuned to drop D.

Please help, youtube hasnt been much help either.

This is my guitar

ok new log ting,

ive been trying to have a go at the instructions you passed on, ive even bought a guitar tuner device (noob much), I can play songs well, every time i try to Drop my 6 E string low, it sounds too low and lazy like (wobbly as if the string would come loose) , if its gone up high it just sounds anoying and horrible, so i tuned it back to 6 E standard, keeping it nice and tidy for now..

I suck at tuning, but so far my skills are intemediate for playing.. none of my friends play guitar either.. So its kinda hard tuning on your own..

thanks in advance

Also im referencing from my AMP, not my guitar it self.. I tune my guitar from my amp as it would sound on " rock/blues " .

Lots of youtube vids juts show them by llistening..

Hi Squad-e. Guitar loos something like a Squire Strat. Excellent guitar to learn and even use on stage. With the right amp it sounds just great. I played in the Church band (Worship team) for a quite while before arthritis got the better of me and I used a Squire Strat and it sounded great through the church system.

I only used standard tuning. Mostly by ear but sometimes with the Electronic tuner. I never used the drop-d. I turned the volume way down on the bottom bridge to get rid of the twang and turned the top bridge a couple of notches higher than the middle bridge. And plenty of base on the amp. It gave it a smoother bluesy sound.

I also have a 12 string Accoustic. The sweetest sound you'll ever hear from a guitar.

Try and master your Bar Chords as you will find them a great help and a lot of tunes easier to play. I only have short fingers and some of the normal chords were a bit hard to get but using a bar chord you can get just about all of them. Just loved the E_Chord. It would be about the gutsiest chord to play in my opinion. You can even download just about every chord there ever was from the web. There are literally thousands of variations.

Stick with it and don't try to play the hard stuff too early and you'll enjoy it for the rest of your life.

Limber up your hands and fingers before any session! There are too many good guitar players out of action because they jumped straight in.

Most of all.................ENJOY IT :hi:

Bless ya

I used to play, quite a bit too. I stopped when, well, you know. Prior to that, I had a decade of classical training on woodwinds as well as a few years with my Japanese 50's reissue candy apple red Stratocaster. I even had the rare chance to play a "nocaster" very briefly, though I doubt you know what that is.

Sounds like you are looking for "double drop-d", not drop-d tuning help. As stated above, a handful of us have a bit of experience you seek, so ask away.

COOL TIPS GUYS... :rambo::rolleyes:

also where can you get headphones that would fit into the jack socket of the guitar.. shame standard headphones cant

maybe im thinking too early for drop D tuning, probably when im fed up of standard tuning, but with amp voloume on 4 of 3, still sounds rockin, when play those power chords, especially to "smoke on the water" by jimi hendrix.. I can play happy bithday as well pretty well..

The quarter inch output jack on most guitars has too low a power output to drive headphones beyond extremely quietly, so ask for a headphone amp or similar at your usual guitar haunts. Whether an amplifier or a DSP or anything, really, you need more power to fire those cans.

Any decent music store should have them. I bought a 2 way stero/guitar headphone set for my electric guitar many years ago. They have a small 9 volt battery in them and a switch that you can either use for guitar or for normal stereo listening. Whatever you do.........................

Don't turn the guitar switch on if you just want to listen to your stereo or listen through your amp It'll blow your ear drums out!

Like I said..........try any good music shop that sells electric guitars.

Bless ya

interesting feedback dannik and franglen, ive always assumed you can adjust the volume via guitar for your headphones.. Didnt know there was also a power pack to amplify via headphones too.

Hope that made sense..

I'll have a browse around and keep u guys posted!! :)

See if you can find a clip on strap. They are rare, so I hear, but they only disconnect (at the lugs or the strap itself) when you want it to. The downsides are they tend to be expensive and you have to anchor them with bolts, but if you choose a strap that's fairly durable and neutral it will last until you change it out.

I've been reuinited with my guitar - after 20 years. No joke. Was given the guitar when I was 7, it was second-hand then, played it regularly for a few years, but then it got forgotten about as real life stuff kicked in in a big way (stuff happened that I won't talk about openly, which changed me, not necessarily for the better too, dependent on perspective. Let's just say it left a dark taint in me) and the guitar got forgotten about.

Twenty years later I retrieved the guitar from storage, probs not done it any good being in storage for twenty years, but whatever. Im gonna drop it in to the local guitar store here, to have them look it over as I want to start to playing it again. And this time I'm gonna teach myself because I learn better that way.

yeah, i've had a look online, only at UK website stores, they are expensive, from £40 plus VAT for a decent one is a bit steep! I play better sitting down than standing up, i'm practicing more standing up while playing too.. Im not that confident in my strap anymore as well, seems to be a bummer!

Acoustic duet, WytchDokta vs Squad_E - "The Sons of Skyrim Theme (Acoustic Refix)"

LOLs are any shouts aloud in this ?..

You should record yourself and share it. It will probably sound very bad, but that's part of the process. Besides, where else are you going to find attentive listeners?

aye, it will sound a bit odd without a back track drum, but ill give it a go and sound cloud them :)

lols ok, back to log, ive recorded a 5 track in one, via my HD camera.

I'm uploading a track right now, ive not edited it at all,

ITS ALL RAW FORMAT ON YOUTUBE, ON MY GUITAR I SET MY VOLUME TO 8 AND MY AMP VOLOUME TO 2. SO IT WILL BE A BIT LOUD, IM SORRY BUT I WANTED TO SHOW MY RECORDING AS IF YOU WERE IN THE ROOM.

So be advised peeps.. before you play the youtube vid set the volume on your youtube a tad low :)

Yep, sounds terrible! But that's very normal at this stage. The key thing is, now you have that recording to listen to later to hear just how far you have progressed.

It would be in your best interest to kill the overdrive/distortion, as that covers a lot of technique mistakes up.

Also, if you need drums to help you, check out Hydrogen and for your tuning needs, there's AP Tuner, while general but powerful audio software has Audacity. All are free and most are also libre. Handy tools if you do not have solutions already.

sweet man, yeah i know it sounds horrible at the mo, still getting used to the pick strumming, does get ya hand in a big twist..

I play with left hand too..

thanks for the critic, i know i wont become a pro over night lol :P but its worth a try.. Learning simple songs are fun tho, just a matter of patience and someone taking the time to listen to my recordings :)

I'm a lefty too, though when I played it was right-handed instruments. It was both lucky & made quite a bit of sense to me, after all, shouldn't your "smart" hand do the complex fretwork?

Keep plugging away, and though it may sound silly, keep that guitar on. Make a sandwich? Guitar goes with you. Check the mail? You get the point. When it feels like a natural extension, you will start making headway by leaps & bounds.
