Soryu 0
I see a lot of very great models out there, and I like the ones with Helmets and other items created to them. But I want to play with that too. I figure if I want to edit the main verticies I can make the model have smaller arms, or bigger fore-amrs, etc.. I can even edit the face to look more like a face I want to use. But even with the video/text tutorials out there, it still does not explain how to change certain things. For instance I want to make a character without his gear or other items on or even his/her pouches. I want to make a character with just a pair of jeans and a T-Shirt. Mayhaps only his Paintball gear. Whatever it is I do not want to conform to the standard GR gear setup. So how can I do this? With that in mind I can not open any .3ds format files, suchs as the file 'Att_cuba_alied_boonie_01.3ds' from the Island Thunder Attachments files. what am I doing wrong? I can't even open the Ghost Recon Characters such as 'Astra_galinsky.3ds' or 'Will_jacobs.3ds'. I just get an error saying can "File Open Failed:location...". 3DSMax does not come up with the Import option in the 'File Menu' is there another way to do this? Have I missed out on installed something? I installed the plugins just as Mike Schells instructions were setup for the "Max4x_Levelexporter.zip" file, but I did this for the Map creation, is there a different one for the Characters? Please for the love of... can somebody point me in the right direction. Soryu...
GRIN_Wolfsong 0
Try starting a black page an importing or merging it in. Those functions allow more file types.
Ruin 17
First, just get in 3DSM and practice the basics. Somethings you can't do due to the structure of the model (i.e: Removing pouches -unless you're damn good and can make it so the body looks natural) 9 times out fo 10 the parts you'll need are already in GR. Just grab the characters Mike Schell has already converted and use them. So once you download them, just go to File>Import and bring in those new characters. Most tutorials work on the basis that you already know what you're doing. Just practice, practice makes perfect - heck, I got about 800 pages worth of "practice" sitting on my shelf I haven't touched.
Soryu 0
Wo@lfson&Ruin... Thnx for the extra info I'll practice more. As for the Import, all I have in export. I've tried to merge but I still get an error opening the .3DS files. And these are the Characters from Mike Schell This is really bothering me. So far the only Character files I can open are the ones in .max format. And from there it's just the basic characters. Can I modify those ones to make them like the GR/DS/IT characters? Soryu... ***Edit*** Well I figured out why Max was not loading .3ds files. You see I'm using the JSTools and the menu configuration did not have the import added, so I added them and now it works. But thnx for all your help. Now one quick thing, do I have to use a BMP file layout the same as the rsb files for the skins? Or can I just use my exsisting rsb body files? Soryu... Ruin 17
RSBs will work just as well.
