Blame Posted October 26, 2012 Share Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) Yesterday evening it started snowing a lot, today in the morning there was about 7 inches of snow and right now it's snowing aswell, quite nice, but there are also some problems already. This morning a boy got killed, because like 90% of the cars in Estonia are still using summer tires and people didn't have time to change them. My mother's friend (police officer) got into a crash this morning aswell while he and his partner were driving around and making people slow down. So his story is this, a car was stopped and had emergency lights on, so one more car had to stop behind it, then that cop stopped and another car(Nissan) behind him, then a bus, yeah a bus couldn't stop because of the summer tires still being on and hit the Nissan quite hard, literally half of the car was demolished and 3 other cars were hit. There are many more accidents, especially on the highway since its snowing quite hard, some crashes involve 10+ cars and some roads are closed. This has happened a few years in a row now and hopefully there will be no more crashes today or in the near few days. If any of you guys have had the same today or in the past couple of days let me know here, hearing some of your this weeks stories would be great, could also be helpful by letting everyone know that the winter in Europe is coming with a blast and changing the tires today would be really useful. This is nothing compared to the frigid temperatures here in Texas, I think it actually got in the 50s this morning. Thing is, we should be prepared to expect the unexpected weather related over here seeing as the British Isles sit directly beneath two different conflicting climate zones. WytchDokta Posted October 26, 2012 Share Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) A few years ago, for two winters running, the UK got loadsa snow. 2009 and 2010 IIRC. Since then, near enough no snow. Like I said, the British Isles sit directly beneath two conflicting weather zones, thus, you can have a cold year followed by a hot year, by all accounts. But I say that's BS, we all know that the UK only has two seasons: AutumN and Winter. EDIT: A lot of flashing lights in that video, I thought a lightswitch rave was in progress. Blame Posted October 26, 2012 Author Share Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) If TBH, I hate winter, I remember going to bed with no snow outside at about 1 Am , I wake up 7 Am every school/work day and already had that much snow. When I got out of the yard about 10 meters later I thought I'm not gonna make it to the train station within 12 minutes with this much snow, I usually walk it in 11-12 minutes w/no snow, so I went back inside, mom dropped me off at the station. Shouldn't have even left home, had only 2 classes today and was supposed to get on a 11:00 bus, the bus driver told me that he won't drive there where I live, had to wait another 1 hour for the next bus =.= Overall, today was a really bad day. This is only true if sublimation can't occur. Looking out my window right now, I can see about 6 inches of snow on my truck, but the street itself is dry, despite no plowing or salting after the last storm. When it snows in the desert, shady spots might never dry out, but sunny spots can be bone dry within hours of the sun coming out, even when its around -20 C. Blame Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share Posted October 27, 2012 (edited) Gotta agree with that, but here, NO DESERTS ALLOWED I remember a couple years ago while art class a truck was stuck in the snow, ofcourse it had chains and he coulda easily got out of there himself, but I think the driver was stupid enough not to know how, when we got there (like 6 of us) he asked if we got some salt or sand to throw under the tires, we ofcourse said no and he gave us a couple of shovel's and told us to start clearing the ice around the tires... once we got him out we left, when we got back to the class, the teacher started whining about us leaving the class Edited October 27, 2012 by Blame Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
