Changes in Character xml's don't show in-game

Recommended Posts

All,

I have been trying (experimenting :sweating: ) with changing some of the Characters xml (Atlas.dds) files, but the changes I made do not show up in-game?! I am new to this part of modding, so I hope someone can fairly quickly/easily tell me where to look.

I have made the folders the same as how the folders in the Bundle are set up and removed all XMB files. I opened the Atlas.dds and made some changes to it in Photoshop and resaved (not renamed) the file in DDS format. One would think this is all that is needed to immediately see the changes in the game, but...nope.

Anyone can lead me in the right direction or explain why this will not work for me?

Thanks!

Spik@

could you post a JPEG of what atlas DDS file you mean, and what changes you made?

sorry i haven't installed GRAW2 on my system in a fair while.

if all else fails and if you haven't already put it where the mods should be and make sure there's only one mod there.

Well,...that's just it. I haven't made the mods folder.

I thought (maybe that's the problem!) I could just 'overwrite' it, like any other xml, if I would just place it in my folder structure (Data - Textures - Atlas.... etc.).

I did see something about making a mods folder, but do I really need to?

Ok,...so for testing purposes....

There is a link here somewhere where it is explained to make a Mods folder... I don't think there was an explanation on how the contents of that folder should be set up.

Do I have to make the Mods folder and after that place the folder path and edited DDS (Data - Textures - Etc.) in there?

I think you set up a folder called "local" in the main GRAW2 directory then inside "local" create another folder called "english" (or the language you play in)

and then paste the textures (with your files in there and whatnot) folder into the "English" folder,

I was chatting to Spik@ about this earlier, I have tried to get a new character in the game but never had any luck in getting to show in the "human" list in the editor.

I spent a few hours on this but in the end I gave up.

Our new modding guru Spik@ has more patience than me plus the fact he is younger, better looking and still has most of his brain cells intact (unlike me) so I have every confidence that he can get this working. :P

Alex, adding anything to the English folder will cause conflicts with any weapon mods plus it will trigger the anti-cheat for multiplayer.

Ah ok Zee... I will try this tomorrow! If it doesn't work, I'll be back to bother you! ;)

Has more patience = perhaps

Better looking = hardly

Any luck with getting any new characthers ingame? Would be really sweet to get some new guys to shoot at! :gun:

Nope. Must admit that I haven't looked it anymore lately. All changes that I made (either directly in the xml files or in the DDS files) didn't do anything for me. The only thing that happened was the charachter showing up in the editor, but as soon as I fired up the game, nobody was there.... :) and invisible characters are no fun to shoot at!

What are you doing? Maybe that will shed light on the issue, such as are you creating an English/textures/atlas_characters/ghost_team/diffuse/diffuse_set0/ set of folders because my skin edits work:

Well,...the thing is....I do not want to make a mod. If this can only be done by making a mod (Mod - English - Etc.) than I will not persue this any further. I want to change or add files and include them in the bundle. I thought this would be easy, as so many other things can be changed by simply edit the xml files, but this does not seem to work with characters.... :(
