Dick Splash
The London 2012 Olympics are huge news here [obviously] in the U.K. and I've tried to catch up on as many events as I can. BBC's dedicated Olympic website's design has done a really good job for keeping tabs on all things too. I have to say the opening ceremony was absolutely beautiful and it's interesting to see a British football team in the Olympics for the first time in decades. If you're not aware, the game...the 'beautiful game' as some call it, is so deep rooted in the British psyche for many, that there is a level of intolerence for some that can be compared to Islamic extremism when it comes to 'believing' in their local, chosen or national team, and when I mean national, I'm referring to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Perhaps the 'clans have been united' after all Mr Gibson. Anyway, on a lighter note, check out Australia's Michelle Jenneke at the women's 100m hurdles at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona recently; Michelle Jenneke (With Music) Dude! WytchDokta
I'm only watching the Olympics to perv on the women. Also, I like how none of the commentators can correctly pronounce the Olympians' names. Edited August 4, 2012 by WytchDokta
Rocky
I've been more into this olympics than ever before, probably laregly due to the great TV coverage. Likes : Beach Volleyball, rowing, judo, track and field Dislikes : swimming (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn), 10m shooting (######), football (no atmosphere) Lots of Gold for GB today [The only country NOT to award financial medal incentives]
Rocky
Okay, most stupid race of all - WALKING. Have you seen it, not only does it look plain stupid, but it is so difficult to properly regulate, it is a farce. To be a "walk" one foot has to be on the ground at all times, ie the toe of the back foot and the heel of the front foot comes down. If there is an instant when both feet are off the ground at the same time that is known as RUNNING. The problem is, it is so impossible to regulate it is actually a joke in my eyes. The BBC did a slow mo of the lead racers, and ALL of them had air between both feet and the ground, a clean 40mm. So if everyone is habitually cheating, the sport is a joke and should not be in the olympics. BAH.
squad_e
Apparently the level of security for terrorist attacks is a bloody joke too.
Zeealex
What Have been your favorite and most exciting bits of this Olympics then? now that it's over (paralympics to go! much better in my opinion)
Dick Splash
WOW!!!....BEST OLYMPIC GAMES EVER!!! The ceremonies, the quality of the athletes, the tv coverage, the camera angles and technology, the passion and the joy. Absolutely brilliant. Stick it up ya Beijing and bring it on Rio! For the Brits, I think we were all taken aback by the amount of medals won four years ago, and we've surpassed that at the London games. The thing is I'd rather the focus be on fielding a quality team and max out every event going, than comparing medal quantity. DS
Rocky
Yeh I've never been so drawn in to an Olympics before, excellent all round. Read some of the worldwide press today and apart from a stuffy Russian response, the rest of the world agrees so really very cool.
RileyFletcher_01
Rocky's favorite was the walking competitions though.
Tinker
Ha! I switched to that wondering what it was. They were at the 30K mark. Noticed it was a 50K race after 20 mins or so and thought what the **** is this? Switched back over to see the last 3-4 K. The problem is, it is so impossible to regulate it is actually a joke in my eyes. So many times I thought people looked like they were running, thought the same thing. 2 feet off the ground spotted. Dick Splash
I've just watched the closing ceremony again. The athletes entered the stadium by walking through the crowd!!! What a nice touch. It's been said before, the 2012 Games have been about the people. The 70,000 volunteers [The largest since WWII] couldn't be praised enough too. No Cold War, Nazi, nation boycott or military might B.S. there. "Inspire A Generation"...indeed. DS
