EOTech M40GL Grenade Launcher Sight (Mod)

Hello, all.

I've created a reticule based on the EOTech M40GL optical sight for the M203 (and other) 40mm grenade launcher. No longer do you have to guestimate your shots because this sight allows you to fire grenades with pin-point accuracy out to 220m in 10m increments!

BE SURE TO READ THE README.TXT as there are a couple of important details regarding getting it to work correctly with the range markings in the sight.

GENERAL:

This mod replaces the default M203 40mm grenade launcher reticule with an EOTech L3 series model M40GL optical sight. The sight mounds along side the M203 and provides accurate range markings in 10m increments. The real sight has a small aperture that scrolls the range markings up and down as you aim ... since I cannot replicate that behavior in Ghost Recon, I have taken the liberty of expanding the aperture window downwards so that it can accomodate a reasonable range of range marks ... from 60m to 220m. Even though the range markings do not move around as they do in the real sight, I tried to make it look as though they extend above and below the view that you have in the game ... just a touch of realism I guess.

INSTALLATION:

Open the .zip file and simply copy the "EOTech M40GL" folder to your Mods folder and then activate the mod in the game options. Make sure that the mod is at the bottom of the active list (highest priority).

USING THE SIGHT:

Many modders, including myself, allow a 1.25x magnification on iron sights and non-magnification optical sights such as the EOTech M40GL as a way of simulating concentrated aiming. I have added this to the M203 and YOU MUST BE ZOOMED IN FOR THE RANGE MARKINGS TO BE CORRECT. I use the sight on a display running at 1920x1080 ... displays using different horizontal resolutions will not work properly with the range markings in the sight.

Again, two things are required for the sight to be accurate:

1. You must be zoomed in. (1.25x)

2. You must be using a horizontal display resolution of 1024 or very close to it.

As usual, feel free to use the sight on any GL that you want, but keep in mind that you need to use the reticule offsets that are in the included M203.GUN file, and you need to be using the stock 40mm grenade projectile file, or one with the same ballistics.

The sight is kind of ugly because my Photoshop skills pretty much suck, but the thing works. If I ever get it cleaned up a bit more, I'll post an update.

Enjoy this thing ... I hate having to guess all the time with the stock reticule! To borrow a tagline from a dive computer company, "Replacing Luck".

OK, I've attached the .zip file to the original post.

If anyone wants to clean up the graphic of the reticule a bit, I'd be grateful ... it's just ok as it is now. The important thing is to leave the range scale exactly where it is though.

Thanks ... I love this game and have been at it since it released. I started a private mod about 9 years ago by slowly collecting bits and pieces of other mods and adding changes and additional creations of my own. I figured I'd offer of few of the latter here if people are interested.

Ok i am missing something because if it only works at certain resolutions how would others like me (1440x900) use it? We wouldn't by the statement above right? or is it adjustable?

Unfortunately, any kind of range compensation scale on a reticule is dependent on screen resolution, so anything other than what I happen to be using (which is fortunately somewhat common) won't be accurate. Sorry about that ... it's just a limitation of how the game engine works.
