Kit Problem

Recommended Posts

It's like having amnesia.

I've seen this thread before.

I know what it says.

I know who posted in it.

YET I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THREAD IT WAS IN!

I want to set the singleplayer characters' kits to only weapons from my mod. "Just put the kits in the rifleman, sniper, etc. folders,' you say? Nay, then you could use all weapons in campaign mode. I recall very clearly that Jack57 posted in a thread asking this, and I am positive that he said to change this line

<KitPath>sniper</KitPath>

To this

<KitPath>Texas Militia/Kits/sniper</KitPath>

But in-game it has a blank kit icon and no weapon model. Am I typing something wrong?

EDIT

Just looked at 'Brothers in Arms' and saw that this is what he did. I will experiment and see what I'm doing wrong.

EDIT AGAIN

Okay, for anyone who wants to know, this is what I did wrong. I put a slash instead of a backslash.

Thanks for leaving me hanging Apex.

I now have another problem that may not be possible to fix. If I set the sniper actors to the campaign_sniper folder, they only get access to the 2 campaign sniper rifles. But if I set it to the quickmission_sniper folder, they get access to all even if they are in campaign mode. Any workarounds?

LOL, sorry didn't mean to. I'd have to look it up myself to see how I did it in Heroes Unleashed. May also have it in my dev notes somewhere, but the easiest way would be for you to have a look at the system(s) I used in GRHU. One thing: You don't need the full/external mod path in the actor files and can just reference folders inside the kit folder directly.

The kit folders and restriction structure in GR is really quite complex, with the different campaign, quick mission, and multiplayer settings and folders and soldier classes and whatnot all influencing one another in some way. Trust me, once you get to thousands of equipment kits it can become quite a nightmare.

Nah. Missions are fun. Sure, you have to put some thought and a lot of work in there, but at least you get a substantial result. With kits you have to wade through xml files and kit folders etc. just to change e.g. the loadout of a certain pistol. Not very satisfying work, but needed nonetheless.
