Releasing my first mission

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. For the past couple weeks, in between my non-GR life and running around on the Alpha Squad server, I have managed to create a little mission. Not my first creation, but my first REAL mission that is actually worth playing. I've drawn up a couple webpages that contain all the briefing and download info. This is a stealth based, auto-scored mission. There have been some issues with in-game cinematics on a dedicated server so I've made 2 versions, 1 with and 1 without cinematics. Feel free to download and try either version but just know that the cinematics have caused a dedicated server to crash. Anyone with questions or comments please speak up.

Alpha Squad / Monkey - Mission #1

We played it tonight, two things.

A few minutes into the mission a shot rings out from the distance, and we get the message that the assassination objective is complete - bbut we never fired a shot. That happened every single game.

Second thing, if you are playing with respawn on, the game ends if you die after ten minutes, because you sespawn into the extraction zone.

Apart from that - fun mission, the stealth part is very tricky!

thanks for the info Rocky. I'll have to look into that assassination thing. never had any problems there so I will have to check into it to see what is going on.

as for respawns, well I must have left that part out of the briefing, sorry. being as it was designed to be a stealth mission, one of the team getting shot and killed, well at that point the stealth is pretty much over. maybe it was an oversight on my part or maybe just second nature, we never have respawns on co-op games so I just kept that frame of mind when scripting.

I currently have a much bigger project on my hands but I will make sure to find time to fix anything that people find. I'll post up here when I get it all sorted out and get it up for download. thanks again rocky.

Monkey (and Incubus) has just started scripting and shows great talent. Expect SSL mission 3 to come from these two guys, guided by the expertice Alpha Squad has gathered during our coop tournaments.

Also; SSL mission 2 briefing is now online

Ok I know its been a few days, but I finally have found time to go back into the mission and fix some things. Mostly dumb things that I should have caught earlier but didn't basically because it never happened during testing. Rocky noted the one objective being completed even though no one on the team did anything. That has been fixed. Also, spoke with some other people that had some problems with the patrols. That also has been fixed. Included on the download page is a July 18 Update that goes more into detail. Download and enjoy. Any questions or comments feel free to let me know.

Alpha Squad / Monkey - "Swift Intervention" **UPDATED**!!

Greetings!

Swift Intervention by Alpha/ Monkey is a treat for us GR adrenaline junkies!

First let me say I have been playing both the non and cinematic versions of this new Stealth mission, even before it went public.

I must say that it has been 100% playable from even the testing stages, however some of the changes made to bring to a finished product such as the non- cinematic version has made some very minor quirks come out, that are now being rectified with the updates.

This is a Stealth mission with plenty of action!

The map used is the Polling Center with IT's great AI. The objectives are assasinating a General, setting off a 20sec fuse bomb in the polls, and rescuing two hostages under guard.

This mission allows for silent kills, but does subtract points from the scoring.

What is particularly exciting is trying to figure the spotting distances and wether or not to engage. Also trying to rescue the hostages through the guards and roving patrols without killing anyone is a brain teaser, much like Jack57's stealth mission in Brother's in Arms. The cinematic shots of the demo blast are very satisfying. There is more time allowed to get away from the demo blast in the non-cinematic as there is a pause, and so I like the original better for that reason too. Perhaps that will be fixed to make it the same time limit.

This mission can be played as a Stealth or as a rambo mow-down and it still works.

Stealth gametype missions are one of the most exiting innovations in GR to date. If you haven't tried this one out with your teammates yet, your in for something very special and still rare!

Greetings!

After many attempts, we were able to 100% complete the non-cinematic version of this mission without killing any hostiles, except for the target.

Unfortunately, we heading back to extraction when I had a sticky W key and drifted to close to a patrol and was shot, so finishing with 98 points.

We did this under the same rules as a tournament game with only myself and Patriot.

I know that 98 points was acheived in the past by shooting the balcony guard only. I was wondering if anyone got 100 points?

Greetings!

Let me say that it took many attempts to figure out when to take the shot on Ordonez, since one shot from a silenced weapon caused the two patrols around the balcony to freeze! If the patrols froze in sight of the exits we were forced to break stealth and a firefight ensued!

The trick was in knowing that they were going to freeze, something you wouldn't know the first time around. This is a great brain teaser!

wow thanks for the replys fellas. I have to admit I'm still abit surprised at how this mission turned out. lingus I could quote your entire last post and say that believe it or not, I had not really considered that when I placed the patrols or 'the shot'. all in all, it was a fun mission to make, especially playing around with the cinematics. glad to see that the mission didn't just die after I released it. I'm finishing up the 4th mission for the SSL right now, and all I can say is that this one is going to be a lot of fun. I do plan on continuing the storyline I started with 'Swift Intervention' after I have fulfilled my commitment to the SSL, so be on the watch for that, they will only get better. in case you haven't noticed, I have learned a few tricks since 'S-I'.
