Cpl Ledanek
Have you heard this before? I upgraded the firmware (automatic) from factory default and ever since, it constantly drops my connection. I'm running it thru my WIN XP SP3 pc I thought maybe it's overheating so I gave it proper ventilation
CrowmanUK
Only thing that comes to mind is its reset the channel it was on and its conflicting with one of your neighbours on the same channel maybe?
Cpl Ledanek
Only thing that comes to mind is its reset the channel it was on and its conflicting with one of your neighbours on the same channel maybe? so try going down the different channels and see which one stays on? I'm reading a lot of detractors going with the DD-WRT firmware not having this problem. but will try, might rewire the entire pc/tv/network, coz this is driving me insane loosing connection every 15 seconds... I can't even reply properly here
Gache
The first thing I'd think if a router starts misbehaving right after a firmware flash is that maybe it didn't clean up after itself properly. Routers are pretty notorious for keeping bits of old settings and data around when you flash or reset. First thing I'd try is just unplugging it - take the power cable out for 90 seconds. Very often, that's enough to stop a router misbehaving. If that doesn't help, it's time to try a reset. Make a note of all your important settings first! (You can do a backup, but if the firmware is screwed it may not back up cleanly - don't rely on it as your only way to get your settings back.) Then do a 30/30/30 reset. Start with the router powered on, push and hold the reset button. After 30 seconds holding the button pressed, pull the power cable. Don't let go of the reset button! After another 30 seconds, put the power back on - still without letting go of the button. Hold it in for another 30 seconds, and then finally release. If it still won't behave, chances are you've had a bad flash and you'll need to reflash the router again. If you can, get a copy of your old, known-good firmware and verify the checksum to make sure it's intact. And for the best chance of everything working, do a 30/30/30 reset both before and after flashing. - Gache Edited June 3, 2012 by Gache
ROCO*AFZ*
Have you tried connecting your pc directly to router? That would be my 1st step to see if it's wirelessly related or not. If it drops there, connect direcly to you modem (after unplugging your modem for a minute or 2) If it still drops then it's isp/modem/pc issue and not the router. Just a little process of elimination to help us help you.

A) DSL Modem direct to PC/ no wireless router 1) I connected the modem power brick directly to the wall outlet....NO PROBLEM 2) I then moved the modem power brick to the Belkin Surge Outlet, connected to the Always On plug.... NO PROBLEM 3) ISP stays on......Power brick, ISP & modem is not the problem here moving now to Gache's suggestion .... be back in a few minutes/hours/virgin sacrifice
Cpl Ledanek
this is my Speedtest for my basic DSL So far so good, I'd hate to jinx it. The firmware is the most current. I did Gache's 30/30/30 and maybe that's the solution. I also have the E3200 ziptied vertically to the back of my desk, this way the heat inside escapes faster and doesn't stay inside the housing. might add a 40mm fan via USB If you guys got tips on what best secure the wireless settings, let me hear it. so far, all my 6/yo-intelligence when it comes to networking is WAP2 is the most secure.... for now. I'll play around the channels too per CrowmanUK Edited June 3, 2012 by Cpl Ledanek
Gache
Glad it's behaving for now (and I envy you that download speed ). If you guys got tips on what best secure the wireless settings, let me hear it. so far, all my 6/yo-intelligence when it comes to networking is WAP2 is the most secure.... for now. WPA2 is great. WPA is also generally 'good enough'. (I still occasionally come across devices that don't support WPA2.) It's WEP that's to be avoided if at all possible. WAP is a language for dumbed-down web pages on old mobile phones ... and computer geeks use more acronyms than is good for us. - Gache Edited June 3, 2012 by Gache
ROCO*AFZ*
Somehow i missed gaches post... also i didn't post that at 4pm today... ? Anyway i posted it late at night and i totally wasn't thinking that after a firmware flash most devices want you to clear the settings which is basically what Gache recommended. Glad it's good to go.. and i wish we had that speed in the states... at an affordable price. WPA or WPA2 is fine... 2 of course is more secure if your devices support it. I know when we 1st got our wii we had to use wep till a few firmware updates down the road when the wii supported higher. Man i hates typing in that code. wpa or wpa2 is so much better. Cpl Ledanek
some how alive and kicking... read in Linksys form said, once working, run PC + network for 10 days straight He must work for electric company... nonetheless will take his advice Again thanks everyone
CR6
How old is your modem? Personally I've given up on Linksys routers - probs seemed to start after they were bought by Cisco. Had so many probs with trying to set up their newer wireless-N products at work I usually recommend D-Link to friends and family as they are pretty cheap and generally easy to set up Personally I finally upgraded my Linksys wireless-G network at home and replaced it with an Apple AirPort Extreme with dual-band g/n and built-in gigabit switch - little pricy but rock solid
Cpl Ledanek
the ISP modem?...hmm not sure. Only reason I buy Linksys/Cisco is because I invested a tiny portion on their Cisco stock. Have good returns, so I'm slightly biased. I gave D-Link a try but their Customer Support was very rude, even on email. E3200 has been running good lately, a somewhat boost on our YouTube viewing. I wish it comes with instructions for 6y/o (like me) so I can easily setup other wired devices like BR player and our latest Vizio TV so I can set up streaming news, weather and Facebook notification...since FB has taken over our answering machine. I really don't understand why we still have answering machines actually.
CR6
Sorry to say, but another boneheaded move by Cisco http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/07/cisco-backpedals-after-uproar-drops-cloud-from-default-router-setting/ I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the Apple router. Since I installed it, I have not had my upstairs computer dropping wi-fi and I can have 3 wireless devices streaming content without a glitch. The built-in GB switch is also awesome transferring files between computers
