SRF 0
Every time I run GR (patched to 1.4) with the CD in drive D: (my CD drive) I am told that it cannot find the CD and am asked to insert it in drive E: (my DVD drive). Having done that, it still doesn't recognise the CD, asks for it to be put in drive D: and then plays like a charm. This is very frustrating. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance. Specter 0
We need to know your system specs, and which version of the game you have. Was it bundled with a Video card? Is it the Gold Edition? How old are your CD Drives? Is the CD scratched? All new people, please read the topic pinned at the top of the tech support forim page entitled "New People, Please read". We need this information to be able to help you.
SRF 0
My apologies Phantom - thought that this might be a simple problem that wouldn't necessitate all the detail. I appreciate the polite admonition. Yes it is the Gold edition, not bundled, and the CD is in mint condition. System is an evesham P4 2.4 with LG CD and Pioneer DVD drives. It's about 12 months old. 512 Mb ram. Running WinXP and DirectX 9. Sound card is Creative SB Audigy. Video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti4600. Once again, any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Specter 0
No problem bud. We just need a sense of how old some of your components might be, especially with CD issues. Just helps avoid alot of unnecessary posts to ask questions. No biggie. When you installed the game, did you do all the disks from the same drive, or did you use both drives? If you used both, and didnt just stick to one drive, the registry path may not be looking in the right place. A couple things to try here. Check the manufacturer website for firmware updates to the CD and DVD drives. Some folks have had issues with the copy protection, and this has fixed it. IS the CD Drive also a burner? If it is, just use the DVD to run your software. Last, try uninstalling/reinstalling GR, and do it from the DVD drive only.
SRF 0
Thanks for that. The DVD is a burner, CD just a plain drive. I don't recall using different drives to install but I'll experiment over the weekend and report back.
SRF 0
Last night I discovered that having played GR my Norton Internet Security had been disabled and was not functioning correctly (most worringly it refused to launch on startup even though it has always done that and the appropriate options were selected). So, I did a system restore to just prior to to installing GR to fix the problem. Having reinstalled GR from my E: drive (just to see what difference it made) it still asks for a disk in the D: drive. Anyway, the solution seems to be to leave the original GR disk in D: and the Desert Siege disk in E: - it now starts without batting an eyelid. Now to do some searches to see if there are any known conflicts between GR and Norton! Thanks for the help.
WOLFAnubis 0
There shouldnt be a conflict with Norton and GR. Did you disable norton on your own or did you find it disabled. Also, is there a firewall installed on your computer?(different issue than the not finding cd issue). If you want we can PM instead of hijacking this thread
SOTOMac 0
Norton and "GR" working in Conjunction has been Flawless for Myself, and I'm not aware of any Issues to report. Sincerely,
SRF 0
Having reinstalled GR I've had no problems - leaving a GR CD in each drive seems to be a good working solution to the "insert CD" problem. Also, I've had no further problems with Norton so that must have been a one off glitch. I've now downloaded HX4 and Frostbite and have the details of the Wolf server so expect to see me dying there soon! Thanks for comments all.
