Windows Activation Failing on Dell PC.

Did a clean Win XP Home install on a Dell PC. Typed in the Win Key off the tower sticker, and it gets rejected by Windows.

Did the whole validation thing, ended up on a recorded message to Microsoft, it gave me a massive number to type into a different screen, and the PC rejected that too!

It's something to do with Dell PCs I think.

Possible issue : as there is no recovery disk or Windows disk with PC, I used a downloaded Win XP Home ISO, not cracked or anything, just ready to accept a product key.

Any ideas?

Thats because A Dell has an OEM version you should be using that doesnt require an activation. It should be a blue and white disc labeled operating system that came with your dell. If you dont have it let me know I have one I can upload for ya.

No harm in trying mate, but this is a XP Home Edition stickered dell, not professional like in that image.

Okay I just spoke the the guy who owns the PC he says there is a bit of paper in the shape of a disc in the box of paperwork that says the PC does not need an OS disc as if the PC needs the OS reinstalled used System Restore (!) or Dell PC Restore.

The HD is WIPED so there is no access to those options now. :wall:

I ran into something similar with an HP a few years back. After some brief deliberation, they sent me physical copies of all the recovery disks. Slowly but surely, the PC industry is recovering from its dalliances with "recovery partitions" that eat into the advertised HD space.
