How do you 'rank up' on the website?

Thread moved to Site Feedback.

As mentioned your ranking will go up relative to the amount of posts you make.

But we do not like members being post whores just to bump their post count.

hmm, todays top poster, rileyfletcher_01 with 32 posts.

Maybe we should give RileyF a status like 'Supreme Member', 'Master of Posts' or any other 'uber cool' tag and get it over with, before we are flooded with dozens of questions which easily could have been asked in one post, but due to ranking-hornyness is being split up in seperate posts.....

the best is when peeps just say "lol" in reply to a post

Had that happen on our website at one point and had to change it to over 3 words or it doesn't allow you to post it :)

The irony of course being that LOL is an abbreviation of three words. :) It's even better when people drop that abbreviation at the end of every sentence (or going by how I see some people write, that should be: 'at the end of what would appear to be a sentence, seeing as one sentence to these people is one long paragraph, albeit completely devoid of all punctuation.' )

Hmmm I was sure we had a pinned post that explained all this but I can't see it now.

Not sure if this was the thread you were thinking of Rocky but it lists the ranking system, thread has been pinned.

Some of the info regarding sig pics may be out of date so check the forums rules for the latest updates:

The irony of course being that LOL is an abbreviation of three words.

Many people mistakingly believe that 'irony' means coincedence, or as in ironic coincedence, unbelieveable. Actually, to quote the dictionary, irony means 'The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite'. So, you are wrong, WytchDokta, in using irony in that context. :P

Such is the irony. :P

Language that signifies the opposite? Good job I can speak a few languages then. :)

But anyway, using LOL'd as a matter of expression is also wrong, as it completely negates English vocabulary rules. The -ed or -'d suffix denotes past tense, and being a suffix it goes at the end of the relevant word. That's the problem with LOL'd. Let's look at the abbreviation: Laugh Out Loud. Now let's add the suffix to the end: Laugh Out LoudED. o_O

You can clearly see, LOL'd is an improper (oh yeah, check out my fancy pants words) use of vocabularly, the correct way of writing it would be: LaughED Out Loud, or simply, L'dOL. Tut tut, when will kids learn. :)

On a side note, the -ed/-'d suffix isn't always used, in certain words, past tense is signified by swapping out the vowel, like run becomes ran. Unless you're from the Westcountry where we use the 'ed/-'d suffix, so run becomes runned and fall becomes falled.

This topic is turning into a vocabulary classroom. Also, in the Spanish language, the noun comes before the adjective, therefore to say the 'uneducated man' in Spanish, you would say 'el hombre sin educación'. Very interesting. Also, notice that they do not add the prefix -un to their words, rather include the word 'sin' meaning without, in front of them.

Rwyf yn cytuno Hammer.

And you know the French copied the Welsh right? One example being the Welsh word 'Eglwys' meaning 'church' in English - in French the word is 'Eglise', a blatant copy of the Welsh word. :) But whatever, speaking six million different languages won't cause you to..... Rank Up! Master Sergeant Shooter Person.

Or your witch doctor spell has worked to render the admins incapable of moderation actions!

Most likely it's because Hammer's in this conversation, and he donated a dollar to Rocky's site and became a supporter, so he doesn't get disciplined as much as we lowly members :D
