RileyFletcher_01
Hey, I was wondering how to change the skybox of a map (like M11 POW Camp) and use another one, like the skybox from M05 Embassy, so that it would be day time. I tried using the Environment Editor; I loaded M11 and the only thing I changed was the skybox and uncheked "Night Map", but when I tried to make a mission on that environment, it crashed IGOR. Anyone know how do successfully do this?
Zeealex
have you had a look at this riley? http://www.ghostrecon.net/html/sky.htm
RileyFletcher_01
Thanks for that article, Zee, but I just need to know how to use a stock skybox on a stock map, like replace POW Camp's sky with M05 Embassy's, but when I do that with the IGOR environment editor, when I use my new environment it either crashes or doesn't look any different. I've seen this done before so I know it is possible.
Tinker
Nothing special needs to be done here. Add a copy of the POW env file to your mod, map folder. Open it with notepad and replace: <SkyboxFileName>m11_pow_camp.pob</SkyboxFileName> with this: <SkyboxFileName>m05_embassy.pob</SkyboxFileName> You will need to change the fog color too of course. RileyFletcher_01
Sorry Tinker, it still crashes it when I try to use that environment in IGOR...
Tinker
Well sry I have never used the env editor, so not sure. You can edit all gr files with notepad.

Thanks Tinker, now I just need to tweak the fog and it's working.Hmm...the ground is still black like it is night time, is there something else I need to do? Tinker
You can lighten the textures in photoshop. But most important is to put the .map file into the RSE lighting tool and relight it.
RileyFletcher_01
I don't have photoshop, and I tried using the lighteditor, but it was all beyond my understanding...could you possibly rig me up a daytime M11 POW Camp map and let me download it? I know that's asking alot of you, but I've got no clue of how to do it myself. Thanks.
Tinker
No, not going to do this for you. It is too easy to pass on so, I will do a small tutorial on the basics for this tomorrow. It is quick and simple, and is best you learn to do it yourself.
RileyFletcher_01
Okay How cruel of you Tinker! Okay, sorry to trouble you with this, but you're right, I should probably do it myself Thanks for the help.
wombat50
This Light map tutorial is a start but I'm looking forward to Tinker's tutorial as he has tons of experience with it. I could get it to work at one time but that was ages ago.
Tinker
Only scratching the surface here. Want to make the map lighter in general. For info, all maps, night and day have a Sun. The Sun is what casts the dynamic shadows for actors and vehicles etc. Obviously the Sun will be a dark color for a night map. These 2 simple steps make a massive difference when changing maps from day to night, or vise versa. I have a mod already set up with the env file in there ready, plus a mission file there ready. 1: Change the Sun to a bright day color 2: Change the ambient to a bright day color 3: Save map 4: Copy needed files into my mod 5: Activate and test Use the arrow keys in the lighting tool. Select a light then use the down arrow to bring it into view. Left click on it to select it, then right click it to select the properties. YouTube vid is maybe not so good, but you can download the video file also. It is @ 1280x1024 - 90Mb. No audio, post if any issues. Download the video <iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JI9M40lf-28" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
wombat50
D/l'ed the vid but it won't play in Windows Media Player or Quicktime. The extension is .avi but VirtualDub won't open it either. What player should I try?

Tinker
You can try VLC Player. Been using it for a few years now, never had any issues with nearly any type of video.
