Cpl Ledanek
So today, AT&T DSL went offline and would not change my remote server. I tried starting my STEAM Offline so I can play, but after restart STEAM says its not possible because I have to sign on. We of course I couldn't because... there is no Internet. How do I bypass this next time my Internet doesn't work? Off topic: At the end of my call to AT&T, rep offer a faster online service. I had to remind the person... kindly.... that even if what she is offering is faster than my current base DSL, it ain't sheet if there is NO INTERNET. Rocky
Yeh here's the bt you probably need. Go to Steam > Settings to ensure the Don't save account credentials on this computer option is not selectedFrom the main Steam window, go to the Steam menu and select Go OfflineClick Restart in Offline Mode to restart Steam in Offline Mode
Tinker
You have to be on line to set Steam to off line. You only have to do this once then Steam will work for around 3 months in off line mode, but as said, to set it up, you must be on line. Sure you can do this on just a 56k connection. Sure you can do this on just a 56k connection. that's the catch there... you have to be Online=Internet to set up Offline. STEAM got barraged for this already, and they are coming with a patch for this.... eventually. I read also, that if the PC is restarted without Internet+no LAN cable= it fools the PC's NIC card that there is COMPLETELY no Internet, therefore STEAM will not "ask" to go online and will offer the option: Offline. In my case, I unfortunately have the Update Option on during restarts, so no matter what I do, I am required to 1) Sign In 2) STEAM will look for Update, then 3) Launch game. So 1 and 2 needs to happen first. now here is another option:
Tinker
Tried creating the steam.cfg file and adding the code but did not work here. Must be some kind of hack for this out there, but had no luck googling. I find it a little contradicting, you must go on line to set steam to run in off line mode. Does not help you, but a note for future. When you are finished with steam each day, switch to offline mode then close it. This will ensure you can play in event of internet loss. Tinker
Yeah I do not like GFWL either. Very poor attemp at a gaming platform for the PC players indeed. But it is even worse when you have to run 2 seperate programs before you can even start your game.
