This is the official update for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead from 1.50-1.52 version to 1.54 also bringing all users of Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA to the same version of the game.

This patch will also update your original Arma 2 1.05 to 1.07 if necessary.

Version 1.54 Highlights

Arma 2: British Armed Forces Lite - all units, vehicles and weapons from Arma 2: British Armed Forces are included in this patch with lower quality textures and audio files.

    The full version of Arma 2: British Armed Forces with high resolution textures and packed with a new campaign and large selection of new single player missions is available for purchase, see www.arma2.com/baf for more information about the content of Arma 2: British Armed Forces.

* Engineer - Engineers have undergone some serious training and are now capable of repairing damaged vehicles and defusing mines.

* Artillery Computer - All indirect fire weapons can exploit the brand new artillery computer by selecting it in the Action Menu (default binding is the mouse wheel). The artillery computer initiates an interface where you can see your weapon, and the associated minimal and maximal ranges on the map.

* Numerous stability and functionality fixes and improvements.

* Reworked MP Session Browser and Mission Selector.

Hmmm..... I'm happy with full BAF, but it's a bit naughty of them not to mention "BAF Lite" before now (unless it was so little I missed it) as I'm sure some people wouldn't have bought BAF if they knew that a free "Lite" was planned to be released

Updates from BIS:

If you experience an "Error found in file EXPANSIONS\ADDONS\missions_e.pbo" error during the update installation,

click the "Ignore" button and continue with installation.

When finished, download the file missions_e.pbo separately, then search and replace the original file within your Arma 2 installation folder.

* BAF Lite included in the patch is scaled down quality of units and audio and does not contain any single player scenarios,

BAF Lite is available primerily for Dedicated Servers and Clients in multiplayer to allow seamless online operation of A2OA + BAF

hence another explanation from the Devs

To clafiry, essentially, patch 1.54 offers a preview version of British Armed Forces, alongside fixes, improvements and extensions detailed in the release documentation.

The patch adds BAF objects at placeholder-resolution quality - capped at 64px. For reference: the original Operation Flashpoint commonly uses 256px; Arma 2 textures are capped at 2048px. Audio is sampled to 2.2KHz; compression quality is minimal.

Fundamentally, this means they can act as proxies during multiplayer sessions, enabling a workable degree of compatibility across the community.

The official DLC provides top-spec quality textures, audio, Crimson Lance, nine standalone missions, and a showcase scenario. Furthermore, Shapur's satellite texture is provided in high-resolution quality.

Well, i find it a really good way to not split the community. You can play with people who bought the DLC.

And it now proves my point about the discussion, with the modding community few weeks ago, about using BI models. It was cause of the DLC, but i didn't know it was this low-res solution they are using.
